One of the advantages of mobile phones running on the Android OS is the ability to make finer settings for the various functionality available on a particular smartphone model. Naturally, similar opportunities are available to owners of mobile phones from Huawei or Honor.
For this purpose, a special engineering menu is used. In this article we will look at why such functionality is provided, how to access it, and what exactly can be done with it. For example, how to increase the sound through the Huawei engineering menu.
What is this functionality intended for?
First of all, the engineering menu of Huawei and Honor (as well as similar functionality on other mobile phones running Android OS) is used during the final, pre-sale debugging of equipment at the manufacturing plant.
That is, the functionality of the gadget, its components, available functionality is checked, testing is carried out for errors, and so on.
Naturally, specialists from various service centers often use these same capabilities to restore the smartphone to its former functional state.
Some manufacturers of mobile equipment, before releasing their products from the factory, completely remove this very useful tool. This is done so that inexperienced owners do not damage the purchased equipment by thoughtlessly making any changes to its operation.
Therefore, before you go into the engineering menu of Huawei or Honor, you should think several times - will you cause irreparable harm to your gadget?
What should I do if I can't connect devices to each other?
When connecting wireless headphones to your Honor phone, you may encounter the impossibility of pairing.
The reasons for this may be the following:
- The headphones have exited the connection search state. Typically, after activating the pairing process, the device remains in this state for some time (for example, 30 seconds). If you have been connecting your wireless headphones to your phone for too long, then the headphones may have exited this state. Activate the pairing process again;
- The headphones are located at a distance greater than 10 meters from the smartphone, or several thick walls between the devices interfere with your connection; Your headphones are too far from your phone
- You rebooted Honor and lost connection with the headset. In this case, the conjugation process will have to start again;
- Random malfunction of devices. We recommend rebooting both devices; The pairing issue can be caused by the device randomly crashing
- Old bluetooth connections to other devices. Remove such connections from your phone, restart your device, and then try connecting to your Honor phone;
- The presence of a Wi-Fi router in the immediate vicinity that interferes with pairing. Move a few meters away from the router.

How to access?
It is logical that such access cannot be obtained through the standard phone menu. Then how to log in? Special commands are used for this purpose. It is important to note that the manufacturer of a particular brand of mobile equipment can independently change the password:
- First of all, you should try the universal option: *#*#3646633#*#*;
- If there is no result, then you should enter one of the codes that is usually used by Huawei, which also produces Honor smartphones: *#*#2846579#*#* or *#*#2846579159#*#*.
There are several important nuances that you should also be aware of:
- You shouldn’t even try to copy the password or use it by writing it in the phone book. It won't work! Manual input only. The developers specifically did this so that the user is fully aware of his actions. For example, this is a guarantee that the child will not accidentally go into the engineering menu and change the settings;
- Almost always, after entering all the necessary characters, an automatic transition occurs. But some manufacturers have made the command work only after additional use of the call button.
Equalizer FX
Minimalistic equalizer with 12 preset profiles for different musical styles. You can edit them to your liking and save your own profiles. The application can create a surround sound effect, enhance bass and limit the volume of the device.
After installing Equalizer FX, an icon appears on the notification panel with which you can quickly go to the equalizer menu from any open program. In addition, Equalizer FX can turn on and off automatically when you play or pause audio playback.
The free version has no restrictions, but displays advertisements. Ads can be disabled for 99 rubles.
Options available in the Honor and Huawei engineering menu
Of course, depending on the smartphone model, some of the options may or may not be present. But there is a standard set that can be found almost always:

How to connect wireless headphones to an Honor smartphone
The procedure for connecting Bluetooth headphones to an Honor phone is as follows:
- Turn on your phone and unlock it;
- Swipe from top to bottom to open the quick access panel;
- There, click on the “B” icon, which usually indicates a Bluetooth module. This icon will light up, which means the Bluetooth module will be activated; Activate your Bluetooth
- You can also go to the Bluetooth settings by clicking on the phone settings button, selecting “Wireless Technologies” in the menu, and then Bluetooth, the activation panel of which will need to be moved to the right; Activate Bluetooth by moving the lever to the right
- The settings menu will open;
- Turn on your wireless headphones;
- Activate the pairing process on the headphones. This is done differently depending on the headphone model. The most popular method is to hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds. Or, if available, press the separate pairing button located on the device body. Typically, once pairing is activated, the headphone indicator will flash;
- If your Honor did not find the headset in the list of Blutooth devices available for connection, then we will need to perform such a search ourselves. Go to the Bluetooth settings section of your phone, and click on the “Search” button there. The phone searches for nearby Bluetooth devices and detects the headphones; Detected headphones will be presented in the list of found devices
- Tap on the name of the found headphones in the list of Bluetooth devices on your phone. The connection will be completed and you will see them in the list of connected devices; Headphones will be listed in the list of connected devices
- In some cases, when connecting, the headphones may request a PIN code or other code for connection. The standard PIN code for such cases is 0000, 1111, 1234. In some cases, you may need to enter a code to connect the headphones
Typically, after pairing, the smartphone and headphones remember each other's identification data. Now you don’t have to perform the pairing procedure described above every time. Just turn on your Honor and wireless headset, and you can continue to enjoy the audio benefits of the latter.
How to adjust the volume using the engineering menu
Reducing or increasing the speaker volume is indeed possible using this functionality. To make changes to the default settings, you need to do the following:
- Enter the required code/password to go to the engineering menu;
- Through “Hardware Testing” go to the subsection called “Audio”.
Now you need to pay attention to the following two options:
- The first allows you to adjust the volume for the standard phone speaker. It's called “Normal Mode”;
- The second, called “Headset Mode,” provides similar capabilities, only for sound transmitted through connected headphones.
What's next:
- Initially set the “Media” parameter in the “Type” field;
- And in the “Level” field – “Level 0”;
- The volume level itself is set in the “Value” and “Max. Vol."
The maximum permissible value is 225. When initially set to zero. It is advisable to remember the initially set parameters in order to return to them if necessary.
Why the mobile phone does not see connected wired headphones - reasons and solution
Let's start with wired ones, since the reasons for the lack of connection of models that communicate via Bluetooth may differ.
So, why do wired models stop or don’t want to function on Honor and Huawei smartphones?
When considering possible root causes, a variety of mechanical problems are first checked. It could be:
- Malfunction of the socket to which the connection is made;
- Moisture got inside the mobile phone, which led to oxidation of the contacts;
- There are some contaminants in the socket itself that prevent a full connection.
Naturally, you should make sure that the headphones themselves are working. For example, try to use them on another phone or equipment - a computer, tablet, laptop, car radio, and so on. If everything is fine with them, then it is recommended to do a number of checks:
- Honor View 20 review
Software glitch
Sometimes something happens to the phone itself - in terms of its software. And this leads to exactly these consequences. Therefore, it is worth repeating a fairly simple but often effective procedure:
- On your smartphone, pay attention to the settings icon. It looks like a gear. Click on it;
- In the list of sections, go to “System”;
- Select the “Reset” subsection;
- Initiate the start of the “reset settings” procedure.
This process does not require you to first save your personal data, so you don't have to worry about it.
Elimination of mechanical damage
It is clear that it is worth rechecking the headphones themselves. For example, the condition of their wires. There may be some damage on it. If any are present, then in the overwhelming majority of cases a complete replacement is made - a new model is purchased. Since repairing is completely ineffective and unprofitable.
Next, pay attention to the nest. Look at it carefully. Especially the inside. If there is any dirt there. Carefully get rid of it.
If there is a suspicion of oxidation of the contacts or some critical malfunction of the socket itself, then it is better to take the equipment to a specialized repair shop. Of course, if the owner does not have the necessary experience, knowledge and tools to cope with the problem on his own.
Connects, but sound is heard only in one earphone
Again, this is most likely due to some kind of physical damage. You can inspect the wires. Find the problem area. Carefully clean it, reconnect and insulate. Or simply exchange the product for a new one.
The same should be done in situations where, for example, the microphone built into some models does not work.
Information alternative – Project Menu
In some phones, the manufacturer decides to abandon a full-fledged engineering mode, believing that it has no use for the average person. Sometimes, instead of it, after entering the appropriate password, an alternative appears - Project Menu.
What is the difference? It lies in the fact that Project Menu is purely informational in nature:
- Battery Charge. A section that allows you to obtain information about the charge level of the battery used, the degree of its heating;
- Network Information Query. Provides information on the SIM card, the country where the smartphone was produced;
- Veneer Information. Various information about the OS version, other built-in programs, manufacturers.
However, there are a couple of sections that allow you to perform certain actions:
- Restore Factory. Used to roll back the phone settings to the original factory settings;
- Software Upgrade. Provides the ability to upgrade the software used;
- Background Settings. You can change the color of the theme used, debug the operation of the USB port, if there is one, and change some other characteristics.
In general, if there is no full-fledged engineering mode, then some tools can be obtained using this somewhat truncated version.
Honor 10X Lite review: screen
Honor 10X Lite has an impressive 6.67-inch screen. The IPS matrix has a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels, a 20:9 aspect ratio, a round cutout in the center at the top edge and a pixel density of 395 per inch. There are no reasons for criticism, given the price of the device - wide viewing angles, good brightness margin, good color rendition. At the same time, the screen refresh rate is standard - 60 Hz.
The e-book mode - when they try to bring the color gamut closer to the parameters of real paper - converts the picture to grayscale, simulating “electronic ink” on the screen (the effect is not conveyed in the screenshot). The “dark” mode option is activated on the quick switches curtain, as well as in the “Display and brightness” settings. It is proposed to adjust the brightness level manually or use the “Auto” option. High resolution (2400×1080 pixels) can be manually changed to low resolution (1600×720 pixels), but selecting the “Smart Resolution” option is intended to improve energy saving. The vision protection mode, which can also be activated according to a schedule, is designed to relieve eye fatigue by reducing the amount of blue light, which is confirmed by TÜV Rheinland certification. The filtration level is adjusted manually.
The Other Display Settings section offers a Notch option to darken the empty areas around the physical notch at the top of the display. There, on the “Full Screen Display” tab, applications that are not optimized for this mode are listed. Color temperature is selected in the Color Mode & Temperature tab using the color wheel and three presets (Default, Warm, and Cool). In turn, there are two options for the color scheme - “Bright” and “Normal”.
The Honor 10X Lite should include a protective film with an oleophobic coating. Some sources claim that a version of Corning Gorilla Glass is used to protect the screen, but there is no official confirmation of this.
Another alternative is engineering codes
Such codes were already implemented in old phones that did not have the ability to display detailed graphic information on the screen. A visual interface is absolutely not needed to use them.
There are a lot of engineering codes. We decided to provide information about those that are used most often (you can search for others on specialized Internet portals):
- *#06#. Used in a situation where you want to find out a reliable IMEI address;
- *#*#4636#*#*. Makes it possible to obtain some statistical data. About the device itself or its battery;
- *#*#7780#*#*. Rolls back OS settings to their original settings. Similarly, it returns factory settings for applications and Google Play services installed on the phone;
- *2767*3855#. After entering this command, the mobile phone will be completely formatted. You need to use it only after thinking it through and clearly understanding the consequences of such an action;
- *#*#34971539#*#*. The owner of the phone receives important information related to the functionality of the built-in camera;
- *#*#7594#*#*. Allows you to make adjustments to the mode settings of the button responsible for turning the mobile phone off and on;
- *#*#273283*255*663282*#*#. Allows you to navigate to the backup tool
Honor 10X Lite review: cameras
The rear photo module of the Honor 10X Lite has a quartet of cameras supplemented with an LED flash. The phase detection autofocus lens of the main 48-megapixel camera has an f/1.8 aperture. In normal mode, when four pixels are combined into one (forming 1.6-μm “superpixels”), 12-megapixel (4000x3000 pixels) images are obtained. The secondary 2-megapixel DoF camera is busy determining the depth of field and is content with a lens with an f/2.4 aperture. As for the 8-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens (viewing angle 120 degrees), it is recommended for shooting landscapes, panoramas and general views. However, the aperture of its optics (aperture f/2.4) may simply not be enough in low light conditions. For macro photography, another camera with a 2-megapixel sensor and a lens with the same f/2.4 aperture was allocated. In this case, the optimal distance to the subject is considered to be 4 cm (slightly less than the length of a matchbox - 5 cm).
For the front photo module, we settled on a camera with an 8-megapixel sensor and a fairly fast (f/2.0 aperture) fixed-focus lens.
Icons at the top of the Camera app screen allow you to activate AI functions, decide on the flash, go to filters or settings. At the bottom of the viewfinder there are icons for the main modes, selected by horizontal swipes - “Aperture”, “Night”, “Portrait”, “Photo”, “Video” and “More” (to additional modes), including “Pro” (PRO) , HDR, High-Res (“High Resolution”, 48 MP), “Super Macro” and others. You can enlarge the image using digital zoom up to six times (6x). In Photo mode, exposure and focus metering points may vary. But in “Pro” mode, you can use the native resolution of the sensor (48 MP). In addition, it also provides manual selection of the exposure metering method, ISO sensitivity and shutter speed, exposure compensation level, focusing method, and white balance.
To select between the main camera and the “ultra-wide” camera, the “1x” and “Wide” icons are provided on the viewfinder.
Using the “Filter”, you can apply one of eight available effects to the image (including “Valencia”, “Nostalgia”, “Shine”, etc.). In the “Aperture” mode, the value of the virtual aperture varies from 0.95 to 16. Portrait mode offers not only the decoration effect, but also the selection of a background blur option.
The Night mode, supported by smart AIS (AI Image Stabilization), promises to take clearer pictures in low-light conditions. However, you shouldn’t expect even an ordinary miracle here.
Both Honor 10X Lite photo modules can record video in [email protected] fps quality using a “beautifier”. At the same time, the frame rate of the main camera can increase to 60 fps. But image stabilization is not provided in the settings. Video compatibility is ensured by the standard H.264/AVC codec, and file size reduction of up to 35% is provided by the efficient H.265/HEVC format. Content is saved in MP4 containers (AVC/HEVC - video, AAC - audio). The camera's additional 720p video modes, in addition to interval (Time Lapse), also include slow motion (Slow Motion), where motion is slowed down by four times (120 fps) or 16 times (480 fps).
It seems that a macro camera with a 2-megapixel sensor is included in the rear photo module solely for quantity, turning the trio into a quartet, since its attempts in the shooting of the same name do not always give the desired result. Examples of frames from the rear photo module can be viewed here.
Reviews from people
Do owners of Honor and Huawei smartphones use engineering mode in everyday life? Let's find out from their reviews:
- Anton. I have Huawei P20. After six months of use, the sound began to disappear. I answer people, I hear them worse and worse. Cleaned the speaker. Did not help. Thanks to access to the engineering mode, I was able to correct the situation completely on my own, without resorting to the help of paid specialists.
- Regina. A friend of mine gave me a Huawei Y5 II. I like the phone, but I wasn't initially happy with the camera. I gave it to a friend. Using this menu, he was able to reconfigure it so that I started to like everything. So this is a very useful feature.
- Vladimir. I tried to access this menu from my Honor 7A Pro. But I couldn’t, unfortunately. Well, okay, I’m guaranteed not to mess it up there!
- Igor. I learned about this opportunity a long time ago. Naturally, I also found out the access code for my Honor 9 lite. I'm entering. Don `t come in. I tried it five times. But now I’ve learned that you can’t copy – you just have to enter it manually. I tried it now. It turns out that everything works great. Thanks for the info!
- Oleg. I don’t know why, but on my Huawei Y3 only Project Menu launches. Maybe I'm using the wrong passwords? I seem to be entering it carefully. Or some special version of my gadget.
- Marina. I have a simple Honor 10 lite. But I really like the smartphone. For me personally, this is the ideal phone, with the right settings. That's why I didn't even try to change anything about it. I know that I will only make everything worse.
- Yaroslav. It runs on Honor 8X without any problems. The engineering menu really provides a lot of information and opportunities. True, I’m still studying everything carefully. Then I will experiment. In fact, it can be adjusted so that even no additional firmware is needed.
It is important to understand that the engineering menu was not initially intended for active use by ordinary people. Therefore, if you decide to take advantage of its capabilities, you should think in advance about the likely consequences of the changes made, and also clearly understand the purpose of this or that action.

Setting the equalizer on the car radio
Equalizer - sound settings. If you have a simple budget radio, then it looks something like this:
- Setting up the equalizer in your car starts with adjusting the balance between the front and rear speakers so that the front speakers predominate.
- Adjust the correct balance between the left and right speakers, otherwise the sound will “go away” to the side.
- On devices with a built-in high-pass filter, it is better to activate it: “cut off” the sound below 100-125 Hz. This will help you get a clearer sound without unpleasant wheezing.
