How to update your Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro smartphone
Owners of Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphones of the global version have access to updates to Android 10 with MIUI 11 shell, starting in March 2021. The new version of Android received support for the Widevine L1 and FullHD video protocols, increased privacy control, improved performance and a number of improved functions.
However, not all users have updated the software of their gadgets yet. There are several ways to do this.
1. Wait for the official automatic update
This is the safest and easiest way. The user will receive a notification when an update is available.
2. Download the official firmware file
The update files are already available on the Internet and can be used by users. But for such an update you need to strictly follow the instructions, otherwise the functionality of the smartphone may be impaired.
3. Reset and update
In some cases, a forced update may help. To do this, you need to perform “Reset to factory settings” in the smartphone settings, and then select “System update”. This update option is safe for the device, but before using it it is better to save all files from the phone - they will be formatted.

Now let's move on directly to the parsing process.
Instructions:
Before any actions with your phone, be sure to turn it off.
- The very first step is to remove the SIM card. This must be done using a special paper clip.
- To unfasten the end screws connecting the two parts of the smartphone, insert a special spatula or, in extreme cases, a card from the display side a couple of millimeters inward, and then slide it along the entire perimeter of the screen. Hold the lid with the same cards, fingernails or other available means to prevent it from slamming back.
- Next, carefully remove the back cover, being careful not to touch the fingerprint scanner.
- Carefully remove the scanner using tweezers.
- Now we turn off the sensor near the battery.
- It is necessary to unscrew the top bolts from the cover with the antenna. Set them aside and don't lose them.
- Unfasten the connecting parts next to the board. Also set the screws aside, separately from the previous ones.
- We remove the battery. To do this, use tweezers to remove the adhesive layer on the sides. If it does not come out completely, warm up the smartphone, add isopropyl alcohol and pry off the battery with a plastic card. Then remove the remaining adhesive sheets.
- And then we remove the green board, removing the antenna cable.
- Next, you can extract the required components.
Ready. This concludes the analysis.
Please note that some components may be attached with cables, so if something cannot be removed, first unclip the cables from the connectors.
What tools will you need?
To work with the housing and its parts, you need special tools, for example, a small screwdriver and spatulas. You can buy them on the radio market or on AliExpress. However, these items can be replaced with improvised means, say, a plastic card and any other screwdriver that is suitable for screws in a mobile phone.
Here is a list of equipment that will help with dismantling:
- a spatula or a plastic card that you won’t mind accidentally breaking when you try to disassemble the Xiaomi;
- a special paperclip to remove the tray with cards, or a regular straightened office paperclip;
- miniature flat screwdriver;
- tweezers for removing small “innards”;
- small scissors or a knife with a thin blade;
- suction cup, which will be needed to detach the touchscreen.
As you can see, nothing serious is needed. The main thing is to use the tools correctly and more or less skillfully.

- After removing the battery, remove the chip on top and the green board.
- The following elements from the old one will need to be rearranged into the new screen: front camera, vibration motor, side keys (volume, power) and speaker.
- Then transfer all the cables from the old display to the new one.
- Remove the protective film.
- Check that all the details are present on the new screen.
- Reassemble the phone in reverse order.
Ready.
How to remove the back cover on Xiaomi
Xiaomi brand phone cases are most often made of aluminum with plastic inserts. The company installs high-quality parts, so, as a rule, there are no problems with disassembly - the parts can be easily removed.
- Use a paper clip to remove the SIM card slot.
- Next, you need to remove the fasteners connecting the two parts of the smartphone – the body and the screen. To do this, pry the cover with a spatula or plastic card at the location of the micro USB connector and slide it around the entire perimeter of the phone.
Using the same cards, fingernails, or other available means (but first make sure that they will not scratch the device), hold the lid so that it does not slam shut.
Proceed with extreme caution, as the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus and Xiaomi Redmi 4x models have fingerprint scanners on the back, which are connected to the sensor via a cable through the back cover.
- You can detach the fingerprint scanner connectors.
- Now in front of you is a battery attached to the case with adhesive layers and a motherboard that is held on by bolts.
- To remove the battery, you must first pull off the adhesive layers on the sides, and to remove the board, you need to unscrew the screws. Place all the bolts separately and in a visible place so as not to be confused with each other or lost.
Ready. The analysis is over.

Replacing the touchscreen
The difference between a screen and a touchscreen is that broken glass simply interferes with the use of the phone, while a broken touchscreen interferes with the operation of the sensor.
Replacing a touchscreen is very similar to replacing a display.
Instructions:
- After removing the battery and system board, clean this area to remove any remaining adhesive or dust.
- Next, warm up the phone again with a special hairdryer.
- If the screen is broken, use tape to prevent shards from flying or getting into your fingers.
- Using tweezers or another sharp object, pry up the touchscreen and remove it.
- Wipe down and degrease the display mold. It is also recommended to use isopropyl alcohol, but never a rag soaked in plain water.
- Apply glue around the perimeter of the frame.
- After threading all the cables, place the new module on the case. Do not press too hard, the display will grip well.
- Wait a while for the attachment process to complete.
- Reattach all components inside the phone in reverse order.
Ready.

- Disconnect the motherboard from the battery using tweezers. To do this, you need to unclip 3 cables from the board, then remove the battery (by the way, it is held on by factory tape, so it takes a little effort to remove it).
- We unclip 3 more connectors from the board and unscrew three screws. Next, the board can be removed, not forgetting to disconnect the dark wiring.
- To detach the display, you will need a suction cup. We place it on the screen, using a metal spatula to remove the frame. We detach the train.
