Why doesn't the Play Market work and what to do about it?

Android is a very convenient and functional operating system, but even it has glitches. When using an Android phone, you can encounter a wide variety of errors that cause indignation among users. Moreover, errors often occur when working with Play Market, Google’s proprietary application store. It happens that it suddenly stops working, although everything was fine before. Just for such cases, we have prepared an article that will tell you why the Play Market does not work on Android and what can be done to fix the errors.

Why doesn't Play Market work on Android phone?

The Play Market is not part of the operating system, but a separate application, so various errors may occur every now and then. The program is updated frequently, but you can disable auto-update in the settings. In some cases, this leads to the old version of the Play Market simply stopping working. The way to solve the problem is very simple - just update the client to the latest version by downloading it from any convenient resource. But in most cases, Play Market does not work on Android phones for other reasons. This can be caused by malware on your smartphone or other internal processes that affect the performance of the Google application store. If you use our instructions, you can restore the Play Market and use it for your pleasure.

Google Play stopped working on Huawei and Honor: reasons

Google Play is a special store from where users can download free applications, books, music, or purchase paid content. It is standard and is immediately installed on the phone by the manufacturer.

Also, the program in question cannot be removed. The only way to erase the market from the smartphone’s memory is to change the firmware or perform the procedure through ROOT rights. Due to the fact that it cannot be removed, many users consider it part of the operating system, which is a mistaken opinion.

Like any application, Google Play needs regular updates. If the owner restricts this function, the program will stop working or start showing errors. This is the main cause of magazine malfunction.

Also, the functioning of the program depends on the state of the operating system. Internal processes that are hidden in Android may interfere with the normal operation of the market, and the user will receive an error notification. Below we will explore in detail what to do if Huawei has problems with Google Play.

Resetting Play Market settings

If the question of why the Play Market does not work is still relevant, then you need to try resetting the application settings. To do this, follow simple instructions:

  • Go to the phone settings;

  • Select the “Applications” section;

  • We look for it in the Play Market list and tap on it;

  • In the new window, alternately click on the “Clear data” and “Erase cache” buttons.

Usually this helps solve the problem, but the method does not provide a 100% guarantee.

Return of the missing Play Market on Android

There are different ways to fix this problem, from clearing the cache to returning the device to factory settings. The last method is the most radical, but also the most effective, because when flashing the firmware, the smartphone is completely updated. After this procedure, all system applications appear on the desktop, including Google Market.

Method 1: Check Google Play Services Settings

An easy and affordable solution to the problem. Problems with Google Play may be due to a large amount of saved cache and various data, as well as a failure in the settings. Further menu descriptions may be slightly different from yours, depending on the smartphone manufacturer and the Android shell it uses.

  1. Go to your phone's Settings.

Select the "Applications and notifications" or "Applications" section.

Tap Apps to see the full list of installed apps on your device.

Make sure the application is running. There should be an inscription “Disable”, as in the screenshot below.

Go to the "Memory" section.

Click Clear Cache.

By clicking on “Delete all data,” the temporary files will be erased, so the user will subsequently have to log into their Google account again.

Method 3: Download the APK file

If the user cannot find the Play Market on his device (usually rooted), it may have been accidentally deleted. To restore it, you need to download the APK file of this program and install it. How to do this is discussed in Method 1 of the next article on our website.

Method 4: Sign in to your Google Account again

In some cases, re-logging into your account helps solve the problem. Log out of your account and log in again using your valid email and password. Don't forget to enable synchronization first. Read more about synchronization and logging into your Google account in our separate materials.

Method 5: Factory reset

A radical way to solve a problem. Before carrying out this procedure, it is worth making a backup copy of the necessary information. You can read how to do this in the next article.

After saving your data, let's move on to resetting to factory settings. For this:

    Go to "Settings" of the device.

Select the "System" section at the end of the list. On some firmware, look for the “Recovery and Reset” menu.

Click on "Reset".

The user is asked to either reset all settings (then all personal and multimedia data is saved) or return to factory settings. In our case, you will need to select “Restore factory settings”.

Please note that all previously synchronized accounts, such as mail, instant messengers, etc., will be deleted from the internal memory. Click "Reset phone" and confirm your choice.

Uninstalling Play Market updates

If, after following the previous instructions, the Play Market still does not open on the phone, then you need to erase the latest application updates. To do this, we get into the same window as in the previous step, only we press another button - “Delete updates”. Immediately after this, all updates received by the program will be deleted, as a result of which it will become the same as when you purchased the phone, when you first logged into your Google profile.

How to get back lost Google Play

The main reason why you cannot find the Google Play application store on your phone is that it was deleted or stopped, by mistake, inattention, the options can be very different. How to return the missing Google Play Market?

We will offer several options, since the case of Google Play loss can be individual for everyone.

Play Market disappeared

Resetting the settings of the Google Play Services utility

The answer to the question why the Play Market does not work on Android may be to reset the “Google Play Services” settings. This is very easy to do using our instructions:

  • Go to the settings menu, where we select the “Applications” category;
  • We look for “Google Play Services” and click on them;

  • Click “Erase cache”.

Google Play app disabled

First of all, after the Google Play icon disappears, do not rush to immediately download and install a new Google Play; perhaps it is simply disabled and you simply do not see it in the menu. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone.
  2. Next, open the “Application Manager” (perhaps in your firmware or version of Android OS this section with applications installed on your device will be called differently).
  3. You will see subsections:
      "Loaded";
  4. "Started";
  5. "All";
  6. Go to the “All” subsection and find the “Google Play Services” application - go to it.
  7. Activate the Google Play Services application (using the button or slider) - this is if the Google Play application has actually been disabled.
"Applications""Google Play Services""Turn on"

After completing these steps, the Google Play application will reappear on your Android phone.

Activating the Boot Manager

Often the Play Market does not work on the phone due to the fact that you previously disabled the “Download Manager” utility. Again, go to settings, then applications. Swipe to switch to the “All” section, where we look for “Download Manager” and go to it. If the program is stopped, then turn it on. Reboot the phone and check the functionality of the Play Market.

Install apk file from Google Play

If the previous method did not help, and the Google Play application is not in the settings, you may have actually uninstalled it. In this case, we recommend downloading the Google Play apk installation file.

  1. You need to download the Google Play apk installation file only from reputable resources, for example from www.apkmirror.com.
  2. Install the apk file on your Android device. More details on how to download apk on Android are described in our publication.
  3. Reboot your Android device.

After turning on your phone or tablet again, check for the presence of the Play Market. By the way, there are a lot of reviews that Google Play disappears in Meizu (Meizu). There are also other errors in these Chinese smartphones, for example, the “Add account” message may appear - find out in our special article how to fix it.

Deleting a Google account

In some cases, when Google Play Market does not work, deleting your Google account helps, but be careful. This can lead to the loss of important information for you, so it is better to set up data synchronization in advance so that you have a backup copy from which you can restore it if necessary. Go to settings, and there select “Accounts”. In the window that appears, look for your Google profile, after which a synchronization window will appear on the screen. In it you need to select all the data you want to backup: “Contacts”, “Calendar” and many others. Now you can delete your Google account, for which we return to the previous menu, click “Delete” and confirm the action. We reboot the phone and log in to your account again, after which all synchronized data will be restored from the backup. If the Play Store application still does not work, then proceed to the next step.

Turn off unknown sources

The Unknown Sources option has been a part of Android for a long time. When disabled, it prevents users (or other sources) from installing programs from anywhere other than the Google Play Store. This is a security measure that is installed by default and you will need to temporarily disable this function to install the Google Play Store correctly (since it will obviously not be downloaded from the store).

  • Enable the setting to install APK and enter the basic settings of your device.
  • Go to the "Security" section.

After such a simple manipulation, you can restore a lost or deleted Google Play Market from any available Internet source.

Resetting Android OS settings

If the Play Market still does not work via Wi-Fi and displays an error, then you need to reset all Android settings. This is a radical measure, but in most cases it helps to completely solve the problem.

How to reset settings to factory settings on Android?

  • We go to the settings, where we are interested in the “Restore and reset” section;
  • Click “Reset settings” and confirm the action. Before doing this, it is better to make sure that data synchronization is enabled, otherwise you will lose all applications, photos and contacts from the smartphone’s memory;
  • After rebooting the phone, we restore all the data and check if the Play Market is working.

What to do if Google Installer doesn't work?

If Google Apps Installer does not install services and does not work, use the methods described in detail below.

How to transfer photos from Honor and Huawei to your computer: step-by-step guide

Reset system settings to factory defaults

The problem can be solved after returning the gadget to the settings that were when it was purchased.

  1. Open Settings, go to Backup & Reset.
  2. In the window that appears, run the desired procedure.
  3. Click "Erase everything."
  4. Install Play Market.

The procedure deletes personal data, so it is advisable to save it to another source in advance.

Non-standard installation of Google services

If the Play Market has not been restored, go the original route. Since some gadgets do not have GApps, use Mobile Go as the installer. Follow the instructions.

  1. Download to your personal computer or laptop.
  2. Write the name in the search bar and download “Google Play.apk” and “Google Service Framework.apk”.
  3. Take your mobile phone, activate USB debugging.
  4. Connect the gadget to your computer;
  5. Go to File, open internal memory, find system.
  6. Go to App, copy APK files, click on “Add”;

Keep in mind that while the file is downloading, you must ensure that the device is not disconnected from the electrical system. Disconnect the gadget from the PC and restart. After completing the steps, the data package will work as usual.

Cleaning your Android device from residual files

If you bought an Android gadget that was previously used by another person, then perhaps the Play Market was already installed, but incorrectly. To check these guesses, check the residual files in the data folder. But keep in mind that you will need root rights. To eliminate residual files, follow these steps:

  • activate extended access to root rights;
  • download Root Explorer;
  • using two data folders;

The first is on the external storage, the second is on the internal. Delete files that have Play Market and Google in their names. Then link to your personal Google account and download the application. If no lags are found during these actions, then the breakdown is eliminated. In other cases, you need to move on to the next solution steps.

Installation from third party sources

The problem can be solved after downloading the APK file and installing it. After downloading to your PC, copy it to another device using USB or Bluetooth. But if there are restrictions, then you will not be able to activate the program. You need to do the following:

  • open the “Settings” of your Android smartphone;
  • go to “Security” or “Applications”;
  • open "Unknown sources".

The file runs without errors. Agree with the points that the system suggests, wait until the process is completed. If completed successfully, you will see a Google Services shortcut.

Cleaning up the Google services program

If there are problems, clear the Google service. To do this, go to “Settings” / “Applications” / “Stop” / “Manage space” / “Delete all data”.

These functions will delete the information. For further successful work with it, create a new Google account. After which you can restore your deleted personal information.

Install via Recovery

It is important to be very careful when performing installation through this function. Pay attention to the OS version, since the GApps Store is released individually for each version. To clarify this information, open the “About phone” menu. Saving important files can be done through a backup copy.

  1. Install custom recovery.
  2. Download the GApp archive for your OS.
  3. Save the archive with the servers.
  4. Reboot your gadget.

The combination is determined by the gadget model, but most often you need to simultaneously hold down the volume and power buttons. Select “Install zip from SD Card”, specify the path to GApps. Wait while the system finishes installation. The method is somewhat complicated, but it almost always works. Using these recommendations, configure the correct operation of Google Apps Installer.

If the program writes the name of the error

Such cases are the simplest, since knowing the name of the error, we can see why Google Play Market is not working and “treat” the program specifically.

The following table explains what to do if the Play Market does not work in different cases. We recommend starting with clearing the cache - this is the simplest and does not require further configuration of the smartphone. And then we try what you think is easiest to do.

ActionHow it's done
Uninstalling updatesDevice menu → Settings → Applications → Google Play Store → Menu → Uninstall updates → launch Play Market → wait for the program update.
Manually launching an update if Google Play does not work.Open Play Store → Menu → Settings → Version → Update*
Clearing cacheDevice menu → Settings → Applications → Google Play Store → Storage → Clear cache.
Data cleaningDevice menu → Settings → Applications → Google Play Store → Storage → Clear data.
Bypass blocking by IP address if Google Play Market does not work on Android.Install a program on Android that replaces the current IP address with one belonging to another country. For example - ZenMate VPN, Hola Free VPN, Hideman VPN, etc.
Finding an application that conflicts with the Play StoreDevice menu → Settings → Applications → icon of a recently installed program → Stop / Disable → check the functionality of the Play Store. If this does not help, we launch the stopped application and try to stop subsequent ones.
Checking for virus softwareLaunch an antivirus program on your phone and perform a full scan of the device.
If Google Play Market does not work on your phone due to incorrect time and date settingsSettings → General settings → Date and time → Automatic time detection (the device will receive current data from the Internet).

*If there is no such button, it means there are no updates available or the system did not have time to find them (in the case when previously installed updates were removed) - then we repeat the procedure in a few minutes.

Please note: if there is no antivirus installed on Android, and you cannot download it (because Google Play Market does not work on your phone), download it to your computer first. Next, connect your phone via a USB cable to your PC, transfer the program file to the “Downloads” section and start the installation.

Google Talk authentication failed

“Google Talk authentication failure” - the name of this error is very often accompanied in search engines by queries on the topic “why the Play Market does not work on the tablet.”* We are talking about synchronization problems for the current account. It can occur on any Android device, but is more common on tablets. This problem is resolved in several stages, so we’ll talk about it separately.

What to do if Google Play Market does not work:

  • Clear cache and application data. How to do this is described in the table above.
  • Stop Play Market. Device menu → Settings → Applications → Google Play Store → Stop.
  • Open the smartphone settings, then: Cloud and accounts → Accounts → name of the current account (mail address) → Account synchronization → move all sliders to the left (to the off position).
  • Reboot the device.
  • We repeat step 3, only now we return the sliders to their previous position (on).
  • Reboot the device.

*For this reason, sometimes the Play Market does not work on Android smartphones, but less often.

Rebooting the smartphone

A malfunction of Google Play itself is one of the most common reasons why programs from the Play Market cannot be opened or downloaded. Therefore, you need to start by rebooting the device itself. At the same time, all installed system applications are restarted, including Google Services.

Instead of rebooting, you can also go to the task manager and manually “unload” the Play Market from memory, and then try to open it again. But, for example, Xiaomi devices running MIUI do not have a built-in Task Manager. There, to completely close the program and unload it from memory, you need to go to the properties of the application itself, and then select “Disable”.
