It goes without saying that the flashing LED will not appear, but this application could potentially replace it.
It constantly scans the system for new events and if they appear, it launches the screen displaying the corresponding icon.

Today I want to review this nifty little app that notifies you of missed text messages, voicemails, and calls.

Receive notifications when the screen is off
Let's say you have your phone lying on the table, or you just pulled it out of your pocket, and the screen is turned off.
What happens when you turn it on? It's a text message, a missed call, low battery, a new email, or a calendar reminder.
If you have an LED indicator, it will blink even when the screen is off, and you will know that your phone has something to say.
The Light Flow app allows you to set different LED colors for different notifications.
It can be yellow when you have a missed call, green light when you have a text message, blue light when you have a new email, and red light when the phone is low and needs to be charged.
You can control all types. Light Flow supports notifications from over 550 different apps.
How the NoLED notification light works
If you're away from your phone and have a missed call, text, or voicemail and the phone has gone back to sleep mode (i.e. the screen is off), you likely won't know that someone was trying to contact you until you won't decide to turn off your phone.
While a missed text, call or voicemail will not result in any event.
That's when NoLED becomes very useful. Not to mention it's cool. Let's see this in action.

NoLED selects three different icons for three different events, the colors of which can be customized.
When a specific missed event occurs, that specific icon will flash across the screen in the screen's sleep state (saving battery life and notifying you at the same time).
NoLED is also customizable. While I won't go into every customizable feature, I will point out a couple that are worth noting.
Icon size and color - You can choose how large the notification icon will flash on your screen.
Since the whole point of using NoLED is to save battery, you might just want to stick with the smallest size.
The colors can also be customized for each of the icons. You can customize which icons should flash and which missed events you want to be notified about.
There are four default icons and there are ways in which you can add other services such as Facebook, email, etc.
Bedtime - Unless you're a night owl, there's no point in getting notifications of a missed text, phone call, or voicemail after midnight.
Why and for what purpose is the indicator blinking?
It usually blinks when you receive certain notifications: its blinking may indicate a missed call or an important message.
Flashing red light indicates a breakdown. Thus, the smartphone indicates problems with the charger or battery.
In some cases, Xiaomi does not turn on, but the red indicator flashes. The causes of this phenomenon may be the following malfunctions:
- problems with the memory card that prevents the operating system from loading;
- incorrect firmware update (low battery);
- unsuccessful flashing or attempt to obtain root access;
- rupture of the cable and the smartphone board.
To resolve all these problems, you will have to contact a specialized service center.
Where is the notification indicator?
On some phones, like the Nexus One, it's in the trackball. In other phones, they are located under the glass in front of the top of the phone.
For more efficient color management, you can try Blink. With this application you can control the colors of SMS and MMS LEDs, the color of incoming/missed calls and several system notifications.
Blink will run in the background and does not use much memory. This way you can make your phone a little more your own by changing the settings.
How to setup
To configure the function in question, you will need to contact a specific application. Let's say to change the settings for Whatsapp:

- Click on the three dots at the top to bring up the menu and select the Settings tab.
- Click on “Alerts” – “Light”.
- Choose the option you like, for example, blue.

If the smartphone does not support the selected shade, the light will blink white. This way the user will determine which program sent the message without removing the screen lock.
How to turn on the notification light on Xiaomi
If the notification indicator on your device is not lit by default, let's try to turn it on yourself. This can be done easily using our step-by-step instructions.
- Go to “Settings”. We find the icon on one of the device screens or lower the curtain and navigate through it.
- Go to “Advanced settings” or “Advanced” in the “System and device” section.

Color change
This process has already been partially described in the previous paragraph, but this function is not found on budget or outdated Xiaomi smartphones.
On more modern models, you can customize the color of the indicator specifically for each application.
To change the color, you need to do the following:
- Go to Settings and select All Apps.
- Find the required application in the list and click on it.
- A menu will open where you need to select the “Notifications” or “System Notifications” line.
- You will see a section with a detailed list of options, which also contains the “Indicator Light” item. Click on it and select the color you want.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for other applications you require.
Not all smartphones or MIUI firmware allow you to customize color in this way.
On most models, you can only turn the light indication on or off for an individual application.
Some programs, for example, social networks or instant messengers, have their own advanced notification settings, in which you can choose the color of the indicator at your discretion.
Problems with light indication on Xiaomi
It happens quite often that the notification indicator on Xiaomi does not work.
There are two possible cases:
Exit: check settings. Most likely, they have gone astray and the light bulb is simply turned off. We discussed how to enable it at the very beginning of the article. Exit: contact a service center or an official showroom. Several parts may need to be replaced, especially if the phone has been subjected to extreme temperature changes or heavy shocks.
Features of light indication in different Xiaomi models
As we noted above, the function of choosing different colors is not present in the entire model range of the brand. Budget options most often lack it and only have a white indicator for notifications and battery charging with the ability to turn it off. This, for example, is our faithful model for photo instructions Xiaomi Redmi 4X and Xiaomi Redmi 6 .
And models such as Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus or Xiaomi Redmi 6 have a rich color palette. The notification indicator of Xiaomi Redmi 5 also has different colors, but there are slightly fewer of them.

How to replace Always-On Display
As we stated above, it only works on smartphones with AMOLED displays. The fact is that only such matrices can supply voltage to individual pixels without lighting up the entire screen. - Install NotifyBuddy on your smartphone;
- Disable the power saving feature and set NotifyBuddy to be blocked in Settings;
- In the NotifyBuddy settings, set applications that can notify you about missed events using LED notifications.
- Set the blinking frequency, color and other parameters and use it.
Unlike the Always-On Display mode, NotifyBuddy does not display any information on the screen, but just makes a few pixels light up, simulating the operation of an LED indicator. Surprisingly, the display looks so realistic that no one can doubt that your smartphone is equipped with a corresponding light bulb.
How to change Xiaomi indicator color
The ability to change colors is not supported on all smartphones. For example, budget models such as Redmi Note 8 only have a white indicator color. Let's figure out how to change the color of the indicator on Xiaomi if there is such an opportunity:
- in advanced settings, click “Indicator light”;
- under the “Light indication” item there is a list of options for setting the color - for calls, messages, notifications;
