How to sign out of Google account without performing a factory reset

The fact is that when trying to delete their Google or Gmail account from settings, many users receive the following message:

“This account is required for some applications to work. You can only delete it if you perform a factory reset (which will delete all your personal data).”

Naturally, such a warning raises many questions for some people. Those users who have never dealt with the Android OS before are especially worried.

To reset your Google account without restoring factory settings, you can use two methods.

Method 1.

Open Settings.
Go to the Accounts section.
Select Your Google Account > Menu.
Select “Remove account”.

If this method doesn't work, try the second one:

Method 2.

Open Root Explorer or a similar system file manager.
Open the data/system folder and delete the “accounts.bd” file.
If you cannot find the file with the db extension, open the data/ system/ sync folders and delete the “accounts.xml” file.

Important: You need to open folders from your phone from the root directory of Android (internal memory of the device).
If you open the data folder in the root directory of a microSD card that is being used as external storage, you will not find the system folder in it.

How to log out of Google account after a hard reboot

The methods described above are not perfect. Firstly, they are not applicable to all phones, and secondly, it is not safe to give your own, even a former smartphone, into the wrong hands if some data remains on it. It is safer to erase all unnecessary information and return the device to its original state. However, not all so simple.

Recently, all Android smartphones have been using a new security option called FRP - Factory Reset Protection. Basically, only experienced users who often update the firmware of their phones know about it, and, of course, specialists from service centers, where they bring devices that are blocked after a hard reboot.

FRP does not make life difficult for the average user. This option is needed in order to protect important data (passwords, banking information, photos, etc.). Any attempt by an attacker in whose hands the phone is to gain access to data, and this may involve flashing the firmware to reset locking passwords and using specialized software, will require you to enter your login and password for your Google account.

But what if the phone needs to be returned to its “just out of the box” state, but FRP protection does not allow this?

Why might removal be necessary?

In the vast majority of cases, account deletion is done when selling a mobile device to another person. The former owner does not want his personal data to be used by third parties. Plus, most likely, he plans to use them on a new smartphone.

It is also recommended to carry out this procedure when the mobile phone is sent to a service center for repair work. Firstly, it reduces the likelihood of personal data being stolen or used by third parties. Secondly, the masters will not be limited in their activities.

After we have figured out the possible reasons for such a desire, we can move on to the methods themselves. And here it is worth understanding that on Honor and Huawei mobile phones there can be two personal accounts - from Google and a branded one from the developer. Let's analyze the situation with each of them separately.

Easy Method to Reset Google Account

So, a factory reset has been done, and in order to be able to use the phone again, Google account verification is required. Registration data is either not accepted by the system or forgotten by the user.

Detailed instructions:

We connect the phone to the Wi-Fi network powered by the router (this is important!). Enter the password to log into the network.

Check the “Advanced” box in the network settings.
In the "Proxy Server" menu o.
Scroll down the options menu and enter any set of letters (Latin) in the “Proxy server host name” field.
In the “Proxy server port” field, enter 8080. Click “Connect”. And then in a new window “Next”.
The process of connecting to the network begins, but since incorrect data was entered manually, the connection does not occur. The message “No Internet connection” appears on the screen. Click "OK".
We automatically go to the previous “Network Connection” window. It should display a message written in red letters “No Internet access. Check your router or contact your service provider." This message may not appear the first time, so the connection process will have to be repeated.
Click on the red message. The Help window opens. Click the “More details” button.
We accept the terms of the agreement and select the country/region.
Scroll to the right on the information screens (Advice, Service, Me) until the HiCare screen opens.
Click “Start”. We give permission to access geodata. We accept the terms of use of Huawei Push.
Click on the text field (“enter a keyword…”). Enter any set of letters, for example, 6 Latin letters “A” and click on “Search” (the button with a magnifying glass on the keyboard).
In the next window, under the line “No results” in the “Offers” options, select “Email.” mail".
Click on the Gmail icon and hold your finger on it until the “About” screen opens.
In this window, select “Notifications” > “Other Settings”. In the “Settings” window that opens, click on the three vertical dots at the top right.
Select "Account Management". In the "What to use?" window Click the “Only now” button.
The “Accounts” window opens, scroll down the menu. Find the “System” section.
Click “Reset” > “Reset all settings” and click on the button with blue font “Reset all settings”. This inscription turns red.

IMPORTANT! Click on the red “Reset all settings” sign and after exactly six seconds press and hold the phone’s power button.

A screen appears with the options "Reboot" and "Shutdown".
Select "Reboot".
Click “Reboot” again. The phone reboots. This process may take some time, please be patient. After a successful reboot, the device is unlocked and can be used. The Google account has been unlinked.

This method works for different Huawei and Honor models - Honor 9 lite, Honor 7X, Huawei Y6 Prime 2021, Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei Mate 10 lite and other phones with EMUI 8.0, 8.2 firmware

How to completely remove your Google account from your phone

If you need to permanently delete your account (so that no one can use it), then you need to do the following:

Go to Settings - Google.
Select the desired “Google Account”.

In the new window, select “Data and personalization”.

Then scroll down the next settings page and select the “Delete a service or account” tab.
On the next settings page, find “Delete Google Account” and click “Delete Account” here.

Next, you will need to confirm the operation by entering your password, and then click “Next”.
At the last stage, you need to read the warning before deleting your account and check the boxes next to the items indicated in the bottom picture. Then click the “Delete account” tab.

After this, the account will be deleted from the phone and Google servers.

Creating a Backup

Before any manipulation with the smartphone system, you must make a backup copy of your data. This will allow you to restore contacts, files and system functionality at any time.

Basically, backup is done in three ways:

Cloudy.
Program.
System (using recovery).

Google Cloud Service

Almost all Android devices use a Google account, so you can set up data backup and recovery using cloud services.

To do this you need:

Go to your phone settings.
Then go to the “Personal” section and select “Backup and Restore” there.

Here there should be a checkmark next to “Data Archiving” and “Auto-Recovery”.

Then you need to return to the previous menu item and select “Accounts and synchronization” there. Here you need to specify the data that needs to be backed up.

This method will not allow you to save SMS messages, applications and some other data.

Software method

You can use various applications for this. Let's give an example using the MyPhoneExplorer program.

The backup process using MyPhoneExplorer is as follows:

First of all, download and install the program on your phone and PC.
Then enable USB debugging on the phone.

Next, connect the smartphone to the PC using a USB cable.
Press the F1 key or in the program menu, select “File” - Connect Android phone using a USB cable.

After connecting the phone, open the “Miscellaneous” item in the program menu and select the “Create a backup” option there.

Next you need to specify the folder to save the backup.

Backup via recovery

In this case, use Recovery mode, in which you select the backup and restore section.

Through the settings of the Android device

This is the easiest way for those who do not know how to delete an account from their phone in other ways. This method allows you to save files on your gadget. It should be noted that in this case the account is simply unlinked from the device. Therefore, you can use it on another smartphone at any time. Experts advise using this method first.

It is advisable to use this method of deleting a profile in the following cases:

A new account has been registered, but the old account may still be useful for another device.
Temporarily transferring the phone to another person who may have access to confidential information.
You need to update your account if your phone is not working correctly.

In smartphones of different brands, the path to the settings items may be slightly different. The procedure for deleting an account is almost the same for all devices.

The instructions below are general:

you need to open the phone settings and find the “Personal” item in the list that opens;

To reset using recovery, you need to turn off the device and, the next time you turn it on, simultaneously hold down a certain combination of buttons on it. For example, on a Samsung phone you need to press the volume up, Home and power buttons simultaneously. After which the recovery menu will appear on the gadget’s display.

Flashing

Phones with Android OS can be quickly flashed and thus solve the problem with the account. The flasher program needs to be downloaded and installed on a PC, taking into account the smartphone manufacturer:

for Samsung it is Odin;
for HTC - Flash Tool or Fastboot;
for Xiaomi - Fastboot;
for Sony - Flashboot;
