How to update Honor and Huawei phone to EMUI 11: 2021 list

How to update Honor and Huawei to EMUI 11? The newest version of Android is already in the active development phase, and the start of its distribution on proprietary technology is expected in the second half of 2021. The importance of updating is underestimated by many, because people simply do not understand why it is needed. But there are several reasons that can convince you: updates eliminate shortcomings, fix problems, make the smartphone work more optimized, add new and interesting functions, and “unload” the operating system. Not so long ago, owners of equipment from this famous Chinese brand were happy to install version v.10, and now EMUI 11 is on the way. Who can wait for it?

How to Update Honor and Huawei Phone to EMUI 10: 2021 List

Huawei begins a large-scale update of smartphones to EMUI 9.1

The initial list of updated smartphones, posted on the Chinese social network Weibo (from XDA developers), has now been officially confirmed by the Huawei brand. It includes about 49 phones that will necessarily receive the EMUI 9.1 update based on Android Pie. At the moment, only Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20X and Mate 20 RS receive the beta version of EMUI 9.1, while Huawei P30 Pro and P30 offer this system as pre-installed out of the box.

Until today, information about updating smartphones was unconfirmed, but thanks to Reddit, the data has become official - now we can safely say which devices will receive updates and when. The first to boast of the new system will be the Huawei Mate 20 line, which receives an update in June. In July, the old Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, along with the Mate 10 and Mate 9 series, as well as budget new products for 2021, will receive a system update and versions of Android. The last devices to receive EMUI 9.1 will be the Huawei P10 series - OTA will reach them in August.

We are already aware of how several devices are receiving the update, so we can safely say that there is some discrepancy in the schedule - the company is lagging behind and sending out the update later than promised. If you have a Huawei P20 Lite or any device from the Mate 20 line, you may have already received the 3.34 GB OTA.

There are two options for installing the update - automatic and manual. It is logical that the automatic method will be simpler and faster, but the manual method is more accurate and more secure. We will consider all possible options and describe them in detail so that you can independently determine the most comfortable and easiest method for yourself.

Over the air update

This method involves installing a new version using FOTA technology. Here you don't have to connect a cable, PC or other third-party devices. The algorithm is very simple and takes little time:

  • go to the main settings by clicking on the gear icon on the desktop;
  • select the “About phone” section;
  • tap on the line “System update”;
  • option - “Online”.

Further, the process is fully automated, and you will have to check only one point - so that the device does not turn off before the installation process is completed.

Manual update (download firmware file)

The manual option is longer and more complex. If you haven't done flashing before, then don't be scared. It is mainly suitable for those who were unable to complete the automatic method. It is also possible to manually reflash a device with operating system problems - this is done forcibly. Follow a few simple tips:

  • if this is your first time flashing, then read the instructions carefully and do everything strictly according to it;
  • Do not neglect the battery charge, charge the device to 100% before starting work;
  • synchronize the contents of the device with the cloud, or transfer everything to a flash drive.

The first stage is the preliminary preparation of the device. To do this, you will need a MicroSD flash drive with a capacity of 8 gigabytes or more. We will install stock ROM on it. Next, unzip the SD update_Package.tar.gz file, download UPDATE.APP. Make sure that the latest drivers are installed, as outdated ones simply will not start. Further actions depend on what type of update you need. The developers offer three options:

  • using HiSuite - a special program that works on the principle of a file manager;
  • local update - simply change the version via the installation file from the official website;
  • forced update - used if your device is broken, does not respond to requests, or you have limited functionality (then you emergency force the smartphone to update).

Via HiSuite

Download the application to your PC and smartphone, log in and confirm pairing. In the appropriate section, select the firmware version and click to begin installation. Wait for the process to complete and restart your smartphone.

Local update

This is the second possible method, which does not require any special skills or abilities. Here you will only need an empty flash drive of at least 8 GB, and the instructions given below.

If you have any questions or complaints, please let us know

Ask a Question

The procedure is as follows:

  • find the installation file on the manufacturer’s official website;
  • download the one that matches your model;
  • create a dload folder on the flash drive;
  • move the downloaded distribution to this folder;
  • go to settings;
  • select system update—> Local;
  • confirm;
  • wait until the process completes.

Forced update

If you need to force update a gadget that has system problems, then use the step-by-step instructions:

  • download the installation component (it is better to use the official website as a source, since the file there is undamaged and free of viruses);
  • unpack Update.zip;
  • format the memory card and place the dload folder with UPDATE.APP in the root directory;
  • take your mobile device, open the dialing field, and enter the combination * # * # 2846579 # * # *;
  • open Project Menu;
  • select the section with the software update;
  • click on Update SDCard and confirm the action;
  • select Update.app from the root directory as the source.

Preparatory stage

Despite the fact that each subsequent firmware version brings a lot of new functions, after the update some smartphones are unstable. This happens when the user ignores the preparation step.

Before installing updates on Huawei P9, you need to meet 2 basic requirements:

  • charge your smartphone at least 30%;
  • perform a factory reset.

And if everything is clear with the first point, then the second raises many questions for some people. Resetting to factory settings completely deletes files from the smartphone's memory. This allows you to avoid errors when installing updates.

Of course, no one wants to lose personal data, so before resetting you need to create a backup:

  1. Open settings.
  2. Go to the "Storage and Backups" section.
  3. Click on the Google Drive heading.

  4. Activate the backup.

Performing these steps will result in the backup file being uploaded to cloud storage. After updating Android, it can be restored.

If there is not enough space on Google Drive to save all the data, it is recommended to create a backup copy through the “Backup and Restore” item. The resulting file should be moved to another device (for example, a computer) during the flashing process, and after the process is completed, return it back to the phone’s memory.

If the backup has been successfully created, you can safely proceed to restoring the phone to factory settings:

  1. Launch device settings.
  2. Go to the "Backup and Reset" section.
  3. Select “Reset settings”.

  4. Click the Reset Phone button.
  5. Confirm the operation.

Now you need to reboot your smartphone, and then proceed directly to the process of installing new firmware.

If EMUI 10 is available for your mobile phone

Update via OTA

The easiest option is to wait until your mobile phone shows you a message notifying you about the EMUI 10 update for your mobile phone. Then you just need to click on the download button and install the update, leaving the appropriate space so that there are no installation problems and reset the file through your Wi-Fi connection.

To force the arrival of the software, you can access the phone's settings and go to the bottom where you will find the System menu and updates. Inside, select “Check for Updates,” wait for the screen to load, and click “Check for Updates.” If you have any pending, you will see an installation notification on your screen.

Update via HiCare

There is a much more practical way than waiting for the update message to arrive via OTA or forcing an update from system settings. Use the application as an unknown as a useful gift in most smartphones of the brand: HiCare.

To log into HiCare, search for the application in the EMUI search engine and, once inside, go to the personal section and select the Check for updates option. On paper it is the same as in your phone's system settings, but we have tested how it allows us to get the EMUI 10 update for our mobile much earlier.

Update via HiSuite

For older models, it is recommended to use the latest version of Huawei HiSuite, the company's application that must be installed on the computer. You can download it from here. Make sure your phone has more than 30% battery power and connect it to your computer using a USB cable (do not disconnect during the entire process). During the entire update process, the phone must have more than 30% battery remaining.

To install the latest version of EMUI on your old mobile, leave it connected and HiSuite click on Update system. Once a new version is found, the smartphone will automatically download and install it, and the phone will reboot.

Why update the firmware on your Android smartphone?

Everyone is motivated by different reasons.

  • The problem is with the quality of the pictures, even if you have a good camera.
  • Poor display response to touch.
  • I would like to see the new Android Pie 9.0.
  • I'm tired of the old version of Android and want to expand its functionality.
  • The phone doesn't turn on.
  • The phone stopped charging.

HUAWEI has announced the start of distribution of a new version of the proprietary shell EMUI 11, which will be available for 14 flagship HUAWEI products, including smartphones of the HUAWEI P40, HUAWEI P30, HUAWEI Mate 20 series and the HUAWEI MatePad Pro tablet.

EMUI 11 was introduced on October 22 on HUAWEI Mate 40 series mobile devices during a global product launch event. The new version of the shell received several new features, a number of improvements in the field of privacy and protection of user personal information, as well as a smoother and more intuitive interface.

Updated design and improved interface fluidity

EMUI 11 received an updated Always-on-display (AOD) feature with different versions of the design, which uses laconic lines in red, yellow and blue. The AOD screen palette can be customized to suit personal preferences, with built-in shade identification technology allowing users to create custom color schemes.

EMUI 11 introduces Long-take Animations for the first time. This technique is used in cinematography for a smooth transition between two frames without editing. It allows you to keep your attention on the most important parts of the screen, while enhancing visual perception and significantly increasing the efficiency of element recognition.

The new version of EMUI also features an improved smart multi-window interface that now allows you to open multiple floating windows at the same time. They can be collapsed into the Quick Ball panel and expanded with one touch. In addition, EMUI 11 has the ability to customize the window size.

Improve collaboration productivity on your smartphone and PC

HUAWEI distributed technology based on EMUI 11 has increased the functionality of the Multiscreen mode, allowing simultaneous work on a smartphone and laptop or smartphone and tablet. Currently, the technology supports the operation of two active applications simultaneously; in the future, support for three applications will be provided.

Protection of personal information

The current version of EMUI 10.1 supports Password Safe and other features to protect user privacy. Comprehensive protection is complemented by the TEE OS microkernel, certified to the CC EAL5+ standard. EMUI 11 also includes an encrypted notes feature that protects personal notes using a password or biometric verification. Sensitive photo data, such as location, time taken, and smartphone model, can be removed before photos are sent or published to prevent malicious users from using them.

It should also be noted that since the release of the previous version of EMUI 10, HUAWEI has significantly accelerated the pace of update distribution.

Honor

The list of Honor smartphones that will receive Android 10 is:

  • 9X, 20 Pro versions,
  • 20i Lite;
  • View 10 20;
  • 10 GT Lite;
  • Note 10;
  • 8X Max;
  • 8C;

The list may change periodically. Stay tuned for new information on the official website. Please note that the list contains gadgets for which Chinese firmware is being developed. But after that, as a rule, a global release comes gradually for each series.

  • 8.0 Oreo is an excellent option, with a minimum of bugs and rich functionality, but version 9 is certainly better. URL: yourtopfile.info/android8oreo
  • 7.0 Nougat is a stable version in all respects, it works even on low-power hardware. URL: yourtopfile.info/android7nougat
  • 6.0 Marshmallow - versions 5 and 6 are already really old, although they were once the pinnacle of progress. But if you switch to them from versions 3 or 4, then of course the difference is very noticeable. URL: yourtopfile.info/android6
