SOFT
The tablet runs on Android OS version number 8.0. The proprietary EMUI 8.0 shell is used. Updating using wireless modules is supported.
This is what the initial desktops look like when you turn them on for the first time.
All main applications are collected in separate thematic folders.
Standard application for optimizing tablet performance. The application itself is quite simple and intuitive.
You can change the grid of shortcuts on the desktop.
The tablet interface can be decorated using pre-installed themes. Moreover, the set of themes is slightly different from those in the MediaPad T5.
When you turn on the tablet, you can see that there is no main menu where all installed applications are collected. The applications themselves are located on desktops. In the settings you can activate the main menu function.
Scrolling in the main menu is only horizontal, which is not very convenient for me.
The tablet has a child mode feature. The mode is made in a cartoon-drawn style. You can set a password for the application and thereby protect your offspring from unwanted content.
There is a built-in function for recording video from the tablet screen, very convenient!
Delivery package and first impressions
The tablet comes in a white thick cardboard box. At the top there is an inscription with the name of the model. It is worth noting that on sale you can find two delivery options for the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 tablet. The first of them does not support mobile networks. The second one supports mobile networks. So in the first case, in addition to the device itself, the box contains a USB Type C cable for synchronization and charging, an adapter for the mains, a master key for the SIM card tray, instructions and a warranty card. The second delivery option is complemented by the Huawei M Pen lite stylus for drawing. According to the manufacturer, the stylus distinguishes 2048 degrees of pressure.
As for the tablet itself, its dimensions are typical for 10-inch models: 243.4 x 162.2 x 7.7. At the same time, the device is very thin. The weight of the device is 475 grams.
The tablet can be held with one hand. True, after a couple of minutes the hand gets tired. For this reason, it is better to operate the device with both hands. In general, no fundamental shortcomings in terms of comfort were noticed. You can choose a case to protect your tablet. The choice here is more than large. Accessories can be purchased in both Russian and Chinese online stores and online platforms such as Aliexpress. When you purchase a tablet with LTE on the Huawei website, you will automatically be given a gift case and Huawei CM-Q3 headphones.
Good screen, good sound
A high-quality display for a tablet is half the success: they didn’t skimp on it, even taking into account the fact that the model is inexpensive. The M5 Lite uses an excellent IPS matrix with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. The screen diagonal is 8 inches, as indicated by the eight in the name. With this combination, the pixel density was 283 ppi. Not much if we were talking about a smartphone, but don’t forget that we usually hold the tablet at a greater distance - for this reason there are no complaints about the clarity of the picture. Already from 30-40 centimeters it will not be possible to distinguish individual pixels with the naked eye.
The aspect ratio of the display is also atypical, if you go by the standards of the smartphone world. Thanks to the 16:10 format, the M5 Lite 8 screen has a larger area than gadgets with a similar diagonal, but a more elongated shape. As a result, movies and videos look more impressive, play is more comfortable, and photos look much more interesting than on any smartphone. However, in the case of films in cinematic format 21:9, black bars appear at the top and bottom.
From the point of view of consumer properties, the display is also fine. The brightness reserve allows you to use the device even outdoors during the daytime. Unless on a very sunny day problems may arise. Viewing angles and color rendition are at an excellent level. As a bonus, in the settings you can fine-tune the screen to suit your personal preferences.
There were also a couple of drawbacks. The most noticeable thing in everyday use is the lack of automatic backlight level adjustment. In addition, the oleophobic coating on the protective glass is of poor quality: running your finger across it is not always pleasant, and removing fingerprints and stains requires some effort.
But you won’t be able to make any complaints about the sound. A pair of external speakers provide the tablet with very high-quality sound for a mobile device - it’s not without reason that professionals from Harman Kardon were responsible for setting them up. In terms of volume reserve, the tablet is quite capable of competing with a small Bluetooth speaker, and even at maximum values there is no distortion from overloads. The frequency range for a compact gadget is also very decent, the lows are well developed. And, of course, there are two speakers here for a reason: the support for stereo effects is great when watching movies.
Design and appearance
The appearance of the new Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite coincides with other tablets in this series. The back cover is made of smooth aluminum, it is very pleasant to the touch, while being resistant to fingerprints and scratches. There is a plastic insert at the top - here are the radio modules for Wi-FI, Bluetooth, navigation and mobile communications (for the option where there is support).
As we noted earlier, the tablet is quite thin. The body shape is rectangular, aspect ratio is 16:10, the corners are sloping, the edges taper on the sides. The front side is protected by 2.5D tempered glass. There is an oleophobic coating, it is quite effective. The finger glides across the display easily, and any fingerprints that appear are erased quickly.
The 10-inch MediaPad M5 Lite tablet can only be purchased in a silver color option. The front side is black.
Huawei MatePad Pro review: design
The new product immediately attracts attention with its unusually narrow frames (4.9 mm) around the 10.8-inch screen, which occupies about 90% of the entire front surface. After all, this is a kind of record even among flagship tablet models. In addition to transferring the front camera to the screen, the developers had to worry about some technology that minimizes false positives from finger touches. In Russia, the MatePad Pro is available only in the “midnight gray” color of the rear panel made of aluminum coated with a layer of fiberglass.
The tablet weighs 460 grams with dimensions of 246x159x7.2 mm. The frame of the device is made of magnesium alloy, which has a positive effect on the weight of the device. Although the device is a flagship, its body’s protection against water and dust is not IPxx certified. The entire front surface of the MatePad Pro is covered with protective glass. Let's take the tablet's landscape orientation as the main one, when the hole for the front camera lens is in the upper left corner of the display. If gestures are not used, the touch navigation buttons move to the bottom of the screen depending on the position of the device.
Four speakers are located in pairs on the side edges of the case. At the same time, on the right edge between the decorative grilles there is a USB Type-C connector (USB 3.1 Gen.1, 5 Gbit/s, “old style”),
and a power/lock button was placed at the top of the left edge.
At the bottom end there is a closed slot, where there is definitely space on the tray for a Huawei NM (Nano Memory) memory card, and for models with an LTE modem (MRX-AL09) also for a subscriber identification module in the nanoSIM format.
The four holes for microphones on the top end are accompanied by a volume rocker.
The back panel is decorated with Huawei and Sound by Harman Kardon logos. From the accompanying text opposite you can find out the model number, company name and country of manufacture of the tablet.
In the upper right corner, on a small horizontal protrusion, there was a hole for a microphone, a rear camera lens and an LED flash.
Screen, graphics capabilities
MediaPad M5 Lite is equipped with a 10.1-inch screen made using IPS technology without an air gap. Frames – 15 mm on all sides. The capacitive sensor supports up to 10 simultaneous touches. Resolution - 1920x1200 (224 ppi). Thanks to the aspect ratio, the display is great for watching movies, TV series and other videos.
The screen is bright, with true colors. Viewing angles are maximum without purple and yellow tints. The automatic brightness control system, which can also be enabled in the options, works reliably. But manual control is not the best in practice - the brightness levels are too large.
The tablet has a ClariVu chip, which is responsible for image transmission. There is also “Eye care mode” technology, when the screen turns into warm colors to reduce eye strain.
The picture on the display looks realistic, with high contrast. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. The mode with automatic brightness adjustment in the dark works adequately. There are no questions here. But in the sun, the information on the screen is not readable as well as we would like. Even maximum brightness doesn't help much. If you do not have the best eyesight, you will have to peer closely, which is not very convenient.
If we talk about the sensitivity of the screen, it responds quickly to touches and recognizes gestures without problems. The display supports work with the Huawei M Pen lite stylus, which is included only with the LTE version of the tablet.
As a result, the display of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite is high-quality and bright, but in the sun it does not behave one hundred percent out of a hundred.
Huawei MatePad Pro review: screen
The “frameless” screen of the MatePad Pro with natural color reproduction, good contrast and large viewing angles is based on a 10.8-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels (WQXGA, Wide Quad XGA) and a hole for the front camera. With such a diagonal and resolution, the pixel density per inch is 280 dpi, which is, in principle, not bad for a large display. The DCI-P3 color gamut adopted for digital cinemas is supported. In addition, the selected screen aspect ratio of 16:10 is considered convenient for watching movies, since it is close to the cinematic format (1.66:1).
The brightness level, the maximum value of which is estimated at 540 nits, is recommended to be adjusted manually or use the “Auto” option. The TÜV Rheinland-certified eye protection mode significantly reduces UV radiation and can be activated according to a schedule. The filtration level (“cold” - “warm”) is adjusted manually. The display settings also suggest changing the text and display size.
The appropriate color temperature is selected in the Color Mode & Temperature tab using the color wheel or three presets (Default, Warm, and Cool). In turn, there are two options for the color scheme – “Bright” and “Normal”. The App Multiplier function can be enabled for the Yandex Zen application (details below). The AnTuTu multi-touch test recognizes up to ten touch points on a capacitive touch screen.
Hardware platform: processor, memory, performance
MediaPad M5 Lite is equipped with a 64-bit HiSilicon Kirin 659 chip with an 8-core processor: 4 Cortex A53 cores at 2.36 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores at 1.7 GHz. The processor is manufactured using a 16 nm process technology. Graphics coprocessor Mali-T830 MP2. RAM 3 GB, built-in flash memory for data storage – 32 GB. You can expand the built-in memory using microSD cards. The device has a corresponding slot for this.
If we talk about the operation of the interface, then in most work scenarios we did not notice any glitches or slowdowns. The picture and transitions are smooth, launching applications is fast. Browser, video - here sometimes there are slowdowns and slowness. All this is related to the speed of the hardware used. In Antutu tests, the tablet scored about 87,610 points. This suggests that we have a fairly simple model.
Huawei M Pen Lite
Made in a classic gray color, it is an excellent device for people who work with graphics tablets. The lightweight stylus has 2,048 degrees of pressure sensitivity, allowing you to quickly sketch or take notes. An accessory can be compared to a pencil or pen: the device is similar to these accessories and uses the same operating principle.

pros
- high sensitivity ensures fast response;
- feels like a pen, which is convenient to use;
- quickly turns pages;
- small coverage area allows you to use small points of the screen;
- fits comfortably in the hand and does not cause discomfort.
I've been using this stylus for two months now. I bought it because it is compatible with my device and is a reliable manufacturer. Particularly pleasing is the increased sensitivity, because this factor plays a big role in creating an image. It turns out to create lines of different thicknesses and inclinations. Moreover, the product lies comfortably in the hand and does not cause any discomfort. I am pleased with the ability to work for a long time without additional recharging. This lasts me three days of moderate use. I was very pleased with the purchase!
Communication capabilities
On sale you can find a Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet without support for mobile networks, where there is only Wi-Fi and with support for mobile networks. It is worth noting that the Wi-Fi here is dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, which operates in the 2.5 and 5 GHz range. There is also Wi-Fi Direct, you can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels. All modules work quickly and without failures.
The version with support for mobile networks works with SIM cards of all Russian operators in 2G, 3G and 4G standards on Russian frequencies. The quality of signal reception is not satisfactory; the tablet confidently maintains communication indoors and does not lose the signal in areas of poor reception.
Among the additional communication tools, it is worth noting GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou (standard Google Maps cartography is built into the smartphone). The navigation error radius during testing was about 5-10 meters, which is not always convenient for the city.
Camera. Photo and video capabilities
The MediaPad M5 Lite tablet received a main camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels, f/2.2, with autofocus. The camera protrudes relative to the back of the body by 2 mm. There is no flash. The camera is a typical budget camera in terms of its capabilities, but this is quite enough.
Outdoors in good lighting you can get fairly detailed pictures with a minimum of noise. But in difficult lighting (penumbra, twilight, bright light), the photos are not very good in quality.
The main camera of the smartphone can record video with sound at a maximum resolution of FullHD 30 frames per second. Quality is average: focus is slow and imprecise.
There is a front camera for selfies. It's 8 megapixels. The pictures come out quite good. But there is no autofocus here.
The camera control interface is similar to the interface on smartphones. Flicking to the right reveals available modes such as Panorama, HDR or Time Lapse. Swiping left provides access to options. The main interface looks neat, although some icons are too small for the large display.
Duration of work
The tablet has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 7500 mAh. The battery life is sufficient to work under an average load for 2-3 days. Operating time in FullHD video viewing mode at 50% display brightness is about 10.5 hours. These indicators are typical for many devices of this level.
It is also worth noting that the tablet supports fast charging. You can fully charge it in a couple of hours; a corresponding charger is included.
Charging your phone from your tablet
Of all the tablets I've used, only the Huawei MatePad Pro has reverse wireless charging. In addition to the fact that it itself can charge wirelessly, it can also charge other devices, such as headphones or phones. I tried charging Huawei P40 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro with it and had no problems. I was pleasantly surprised by the charging speed, which, although it lags behind a stationary charger, still allows you to fill the phone with energy quite quickly.
The tablet is charged via USB Type-C or wireless charging.
In a tablet, this function is much more useful than in a phone, since the battery capacity of the Huawei MatePad Pro is 7250 mAh. The tablet supports charging up to 40W, but only comes with a 20W power supply. Wireless charging is only supported up to 15 W, although this is a very big achievement for a tablet. How many similar gadgets do you know with this function?

User Interface and Operating System
The 10-inch MediaPad M5 Lite runs the original Android 8.0 operating system with Huawei's proprietary shell installed - EMUI 8.0.
All programs are displayed in one list on the main and adjacent screens.
In the settings of the MediaPad M5 Lite there is an option for eye protection (it is turned on only during reading - the amount of blue color decreases, that is, the picture becomes warmer).
Among the pre-installed programs, it is worth noting office applications from Microsoft, social network clients, a file manager, a selection of mobile games, Facebook, Netflix, an application for children, etc.
In the “Tools” folder you can find a dozen service applications: weather, calculator, voice recorder, clock, phone and contacts, messages, music, video, HI Care, compass, backup, Phone Clone and Quik.
Any other programs on the tablet can be installed from the Google Play store.
Powerful stereo speakers with fine tuning
The tablet's four speakers, co-developed with Harman Kardon®, deliver vibrant sound with enhanced bass and reduced distortion.
A tablet with a stylus for every occasion
Hello, dear readers!
I had an e-reader similar to a tablet + color screen, reading books in different formats. It was convenient to use it until it broke and stopped charging again. I was thinking about buying a new e-book, but most of the books I need are in PDF format and in color, while regular e-readers are black and white. And in the end I switched my attention to tablets.
I had never wanted a tablet before and didn’t really understand why it was needed at all. I saw an advertisement for the Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro tablet, which also has a stylus for drawing. I’m just learning to draw and have long wanted a graphics tablet with a screen, but they only work with a laptop or PC and are not mobile at all.
Price and place of purchase
I bought Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro tablet with a stylus from the official Huawei online store for RUB 36,990. with discount. Without a discount, it costs 42,990 rubles. and are given a choice of several gifts. My option is without gifts, and I don’t need them. The online store often runs promotions ahead of the holidays.
Characteristics
I will not describe all the characteristics of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro ; they can be viewed on any website where it is sold. I will write only those that were important to me when choosing in the first place.
Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro tablet:
- Metal body - I don’t like plastic, and metal is much nicer to the touch
- IPS screen type - since I’m going to draw on it, I want to see a high-quality picture in the end
- Diagonal 10.8
- The main camera is 13 MP, the front camera is 8 MP - not particularly good quality, but this is a tablet, not a camera.
- Built-in memory 64 GB - there is never too much memory.
- Operating system Android 8.0 (Oreo) - synchronizes perfectly with the smartphone.
- Support SIM card and memory card up to 256 GB
- Awesome speaker sound
- Screen resolution 2560×1600
- Eye protection mode
- Fingerprint recognition
- It holds a full charge for 2 days if you use it constantly and play games periodically.
HUAWEI M-Pen stylus
- 4096 degrees of pressure
- Tilt and shade functions depending on the application used
- Multifunctional buttons on the stylus body (with their help you can take screenshots, delete images, launch applications; in some applications, when the button is pressed, the stylus starts erasing rather than drawing)
- Charges via USB cable. The charge lasts for a very long time (I have only charged it once for the first time so far).
Additional features
The tablet can be used in two modes: standard multi-screen mode and PC mode. This is a mode in which the Desktop appears like on a PC, the Start menu appears with a list of installed applications, and applications open in separate windows, like on a PC. They can be dragged and collapsed.
If you also connect a keyboard (purchased separately as an additional accessory), then the tablet can partially replace a laptop. At least typing text and using tables becomes much more convenient.
Drawing with a stylus
I was very pleased with the stylus. It really responds to pressure, making the line thicker/thinner/transparent/not transparent. I installed several drawing applications (they are publicly available on the Play Store), and the stylus works equally well in all of them. When drawing with a stylus, you can hold your hand on the screen, the sensor stops responding to it. The stylus does not scratch the screen, leaves no marks, and the movements are smooth.
Equipment:
- Tablet
- Charger
- USB cable
- USB-C adapter - 3.5 mm headphone jack (regular headphones cannot be connected without this adapter)
- Huawei M-Pen stylus
- User guide
- SIM Card Removal Tool
- Warranty card
Games and movies
I don’t really play games, but I installed two HomeScapes and Gardenscapes on my tablet. Nothing slows down, games launch quickly, pictures are clear, colors are bright.
When purchasing a tablet, you received a promotional code for three months of free use of the Ivi application with movies and TV series online. Movies on the tablet do not slow down, load quickly, the sound is excellent, the picture and viewing angles are pleasing to the eyes.
Bottom line
I definitely recommend Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro tablet Read, watch movies, surf social media. networks and much more - it’s a pleasure. I have never regretted the purchase, even though the price is not small. Additionally, I bought a stand case with a protective film. If you have any doubts, take it, you won’t regret it if you have similar preferences for the tablet as I do.
Can a tablet have a good camera?
A camera in a tablet is very rarely needed, since it is much easier to use a smartphone for this. However, the creators of Huawei MatePad Pro did not make it for show. You can’t call it very cool because it doesn’t have enough modules for this (only one), and the quality is lower than that of the flagship, but still not ashamed of it.
There is only one main camera module.
The only complaint is that the main camera is in the same place as the front camera. Considering that each module is thick, we can say that this solution seems strange. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to place them in different places. It is possible that then the camera would protrude significantly less.
Examples of photos taken with the Huawei MatePad Pro camera:
The resolution of the main camera is only 13 megapixels, and the front one is 8 megapixels. But the aperture will be f/1.8 and f/2.0, respectively.
HUAWEI M-PEN STYLUS
The tablet comes with an M-PEN stylus. The stylus itself is made entirely of metal. In appearance, the stylus is practically indistinguishable from a regular ballpoint pen.
The stylus is powered by an AAAA battery, which is not the most common format and sometimes such a battery is difficult to find in the store. Before you start using it, you need to unscrew the cap at the top of the stylus and remove the paper plug with the rubber gasket.
The stylus is quite heavy and tactilely completely imitates a ballpoint pen, which sets it apart from other competitors. The stylus supports 2048 degrees of pressure.
You can use the stylus not only in pre-installed applications, but also in the tablet interface.
So, if you open your browser, you can enter the desired site using a stylus by simply writing the site address. It's much faster than pointing at the virtual keyboard.
An interesting application MyScript Calculator. In this application, we can write a certain mathematical operation with a stylus, and the program will immediately give you the solution. There is only one minus: we immediately get an answer without a written solution.
Another stylus app is Nebo. In this application you can make text entries and immediately translate what you have written into Word.
English text is even more or less normally translated into printed text, but the problem with Russian is that there is no support in the application.
Also, through this application, you can activate the camera and make some notes on the photograph already taken. You can select any other image in the tablet’s memory and make graphic or text changes to it.
Overall the stylus is good! But the tablet itself does not provide space for its installation or fastening. During operation, the stylus itself gets quite hot.
