How to take a screenshot on a Samsung phone or tablet

The first way to take a screenshot on a Samsung tablet

This method is suitable for Samsung smartphones and tablets without a mechanical Home button (bottom center).

To take a screenshot, press the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time On some models, these buttons not only need to be pressed at the same time, but also held down for a second or two.

Method 2

You can also take a screenshot using a different key combination:

  1. Press the Home button (located at the bottom center of the display) and the Power/Lock button simultaneously.
  2. There is no need to hold the keys for a long time. Two seconds is enough.
  3. Was it possible to take a screenshot? You will recognize it by its additional animation and sound.
  4. The system will automatically save the screenshot in the “Gallery”. From there you can upload it like a regular photo. If you can't find your saved screenshot, look for it in your ScreenCapture, ScreenShots, or Photos folders.

Thus, you can take screenshots both on older models (Samsung galaxy tab a/s2/e, etc.) and on newly released tablets (Samsung galaxy tab a/s2/e, etc.).

Method 3

On many Samsung tablets with older versions of Android (2,3 and 4), there is another way to take a screenshot. Again, you need to press and hold two buttons. These are “Home” and “Back”. These buttons are located at the very bottom of the display. The screenshot can be found in the Gallery or in the Pictures/ScreenCapture folder. On some devices, screenshots are saved in the Pictures/Screenshots folder.

For your information! Some users connect a keyboard to their tablet to make data entry easier. In this case, taking a screenshot is even easier. Just find and press the printscreen key. It is usually designated PrtScr or Print Scrn.

All ways to take a screenshot on a Samsung tablet

You can take a screenshot of the screen in different ways. Most of them work on any Samsung tablet.

I described the modern function of printscreen using a palm gesture in a separate heading below. The first method is relevant on tablet computers with a physical Home button.

Procedure:

  1. Press and hold the Home button and the screen unlock button at the same time.
  2. The display will show the effect of the photo taken, and if you have system alarms turned on, you will hear a corresponding click.
  3. A picture icon will appear in the notification panel. This means that the print screen has been made and saved.

The second method of taking a screenshot is suitable for most modern Android devices, including Samsung tablets/smartphones. It is designed for gadgets without a “Home” button.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Press the power and volume down buttons at the same time.
  2. After a couple of seconds, the picture will be displayed on the display and a corresponding sound will sound.
  3. An image logo will appear in the notification shade. The screen is done!

The third option works on older gadgets, such as the first version of the Galaxy Tab.

Step-by-step actions:

  1. Simultaneously press and hold two buttons: “Home” and “Back”. Please note that the Back key is a physical button and not an element on the bottom touchpad.
  2. On the second and third versions of Android, there are no effects for the photo taken, but a click similar to a camera shutter will sound (if the device is not in silent mode).
  3. On such earlier versions of the operating system, the image icon does not always appear in the notification panel. To check whether a print screen was taken, go to the Gallery.

The fourth method requires connecting external peripherals, which means it is not suitable for everyone. But this method has a significant advantage - it is relevant on absolutely all models of the South Korean manufacturer (Galaxy Tab 2, Tab A, Tab S and others), regardless of the operating system version.

Actions in order:

  1. Connect an external keyboard to the tablet via a USB cable. I'm only talking about the keyboard that supports connecting to tablets, not the regular keyboard from a computer.
  2. A notification will appear on the device indicating that external peripherals are connected. This means the device recognized the keyboard.
  3. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. On some keyboards it is abbreviated PrtScr or PrintScrn.
  4. A notification about the screenshot and a corresponding icon will appear on the gadget’s screen.

The fifth method works on almost all tablets, starting with Android firmware version 5.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Press and hold the device's power button.

  2. Several controls will appear on the display.
  3. If among them there is one of the following inscriptions: “Screenshot”, “Take a screenshot”, “Screenshot” or “Display Screen” - click on it.
  4. A characteristic shutter click will sound and the screen will blink. This means that the photo was successfully taken and saved in the Gallery.

The last, sixth option will help users of absolutely any device, and we are not just talking about devices running the Android operating system. But I will describe the actions specifically for Samsung tablets.

Step by step explanation of the method:

  1. First of all, you need to download and install the application for creating screenshots. I recommend Screen Master, which I have tested and chosen over the rest. By the way, more than one million downloads, and the average user rating is 4.5 out of 5! In addition, this application supports more than ten languages, including Russian localization. To download the app, simply go to Play Market and search for Screen Master. Click on the first result and select “Install”. Within a couple of minutes (maximum), the program will install and appear in the application menu or on the desktop.
  2. Open the application. It will ask for permission to access the Gallery. Agree with this.
  3. Click on “Enable Screen Capture”. The program will request access to work on top of other applications and to work in minimized mode. Switch all sliders to the on position.
  4. Click on the “Enable Screen Capture” button again. Now, when you minimize the app, a lens icon will appear on the left side of the display. It will always be visible, even when watching a video or while playing a game.
  5. To make a print screen, just click on the lens icon. The application will request access to save images. Click “Allow”.
  6. The screenshot will open in the editor. Here you can resize it, edit it, add simple effects, send it to another application, save it, and do other actions.

Method 5

The latest top models from Samsung (and not only) support “gesture control”. Does this technology help you take screenshots quickly and easily? Of course yes.

To take a screenshot, the user just needs to smoothly and gently touch the display with his hand. This can be done both from left to right and from right to left. However, note that gesture capture is often disabled by default. You can activate it in settings:

  1. Go to the "Settings" section.
  2. From there, go to the “Management” subsection.
  3. Next we are interested in the “Motion Sensor” item. Click on it.
  4. Go to the "Palm Control" section. Tap Screenshot and enable the feature.

Screenshot using palm gesture

In order to take a screenshot on Samsung, it is not at all necessary to use the keys. This method is suitable for the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines.

First we activate the function ⇒

  • In “Settings” we find the “Additional functions” section
  • Make the “Palm screenshot” option active.
  • After activating the function, you can take a screenshot by swiping the edge of your palm across the screen from left to right.

You can find the resulting screenshot by going to the Pictures ⇒ Screenshots folder.

The palm screenshot feature is enabled by default. If it doesn't work, check if it's enabled on your device. See what version of Android you have on your smartphone and follow the instructions to enable the feature for your version ⇓

Android 5,6,7,8

  1. Open the “Menu” by clicking on the corresponding button.
  2. Select and go to “Settings”.
  3. Select one of the options: “Movement”, “Palm control”, “Gesture control” or “Additional functions” (The name depends on the model and version of Android).
  4. If “Palm screen capture” is disabled, turn it on.

Android 9

  1. Open “Settings” in the upper right corner.
  2. In the menu that appears, select “Additional features”.
  3. Turn on the “Palm Screenshot” option. If this item is not there, then go to “Movements and Gestures” and in it find “Palm Screenshot”.

Android 10

  1. Open the “Settings” tab.
  2. Select the “Additional functions” menu item.
  3. Next, click on “Movements and Gestures”.
  4. The checkbox for the “Palm screenshot” item should be in the on position.

Taking screenshots using the ShootMe app

There are also special programs that allow you to “photograph” the screen. For example, for Samsung tablets, we recommend ShootMe, which is one of the most popular screenshots for android.

It is very easy to use. Various modes available:

  • For example, you can set the program to automatically take a screenshot when the user covers the light sensor on the tablet with their hand.
  • Another interesting mode is to simply shake the device. Thanks to the accelerometer, the system recognizes this action as a command to take a screenshot.
  • The third way is screaming. Just make a loud sound and the tablet will take a screenshot. So you don't have to press, close or shake anything. Just scream.

Of course, you can use other programs to take screenshots of Samsung tablets. Just go to the store and type “screenshot” in the search bar. More than a dozen applications will appear in front of you. Choose. Download it and take screenshots.

How to know that a screenshot has been taken

After the screenshot program on the Samsung Galaxy completes its work (takes a photo of the current display image), the following appears:

  • A pop-up message will appear asking you to save/cancel saving the photo;
  • photo icon in the upper left corner of the screen.

The software is constantly updated and changed, so the pop-up window may not appear in later versions. On some Samsung smartphone models, the screenshot is saved automatically. When the process is complete, an icon will appear on the monitor.

Screenshot using apps from Google Play

There are many applications through which you can take a screenshot on Samsung. They are distinguished from standard programs by their developed functionality. In this article, we will look at the top three applications that stand out among competitors.

TouchShot

This program allows you to create screenshots on any Android device.

After downloading the application from Google Play, launch it and go to the settings section. Here you can change the functions of the program at your discretion.

TouchShot allows you to choose the method of taking a screenshot (even the function of taking a screenshot by “shaking” the device is available), change the type of notification about the taken photo, edit the screen capture area, and set the quality and format of the saved image.

AZ Screen Recorder

A wonderful multifunctional program with which you can not only take screenshots, but also record video of the screen.

You can also download the program from Google Play. After launching it, five icons will appear on the left of the main screen. This interface is intuitive, for example, the green gear button indicates application settings, the red camera indicates video recording.

AZ Screen Recorder application has proven itself to be stable and easy to use. In our opinion, its only drawback is the lack of ability to change the format of the created screenshot (PNG by default).

Multi-action Home Button

A program that duplicates and displays the “Home” button on the main screen. Owners of devices with a physical “Home” button should take note (it is known to fail over time).

With this application, you can take screenshots by holding or double-clicking on the button displayed on the screen. To do this, you need to launch Multi-action Home Button , in the Actions section select Action on double click, then Screenshot.

This method is one of the fastest options for obtaining a finished screen.

What to do if pressing keys doesn't work

If the standard key combination does not take a screenshot, the problem is either the hold time (too short or too long an interval) or an asynchronous press. You need to use the standard method 3-4 times, it may work. If all else fails, then:

  • The problem is in the firmware: either an outdated version or an unlicensed one; only a specialist from the company’s service department can solve the problem;
  • The problem is in the device: either it is not “Samsung” (the smartphone was produced by another manufacturer, the order was different), or under the name Samsung Galaxy there is a cheap fake.

If the phone is definitely Samsung, the firmware is branded, but nothing comes out of the keys, you can take screenshots through the program icon on the display. Clicking on the icon activates the program and gives step-by-step instructions.
