The Huawei smartphone brand has long been well known in the world, but can you boast that you know at a sufficient level the classification of all mobile devices from this manufacturer? Huawei offers a wide range of models, and for convenience, all models belong to a specific line. The classification is based on the price and technical features of the devices. Let’s say right away that, unlike most of its competitors, Huawei’s models cannot be unambiguously divided into lines; there is no clear gradation here. But a certain logic and pattern can be traced. Let's look into them.
Model design
Honor 8S Prime | Y6p |
Colors |
The design of the devices is particularly attractive, but everyone has different tastes, so let's not judge the appearance. Honor 8S Prime has 3 colors: blue, blue and black. 3 colors are used as a solution for the Y6p case: green, black and purple. Both phones are available in the same number of colors.
Size, thickness and weight
Honor 8S Prime | Y6p | |
Screen diagonal | 5.71 inches | 6.3 inches |
Length | 14.71 cm. | 15.91 cm. |
Width | 7.08 cm. | 7.41 cm. |
Thickness | 0.84 cm. | 0.9 cm. |
Weight | 146 grams | 185 grams |
For reference: there are 2.54 cm in one inch.
What's better - a large display that's easy to watch videos on, or a compact phone that fits easily into any pocket? There is no clear answer. Returning to the compared models, we note that the screen size of the Honor 8S Prime is slightly smaller than that of its opponent. The weight and thickness of the phones vary: Honor 8S Prime weighs less and is slightly thinner than the Y6p.
How to choose?
If you look at the mobile device market, it is filled exclusively with smartphones, and their number is growing every year. The main thing before buying, first of all, is to pay attention to the following 2 parameters:
- What is it for? This is the first question that a user should ask before purchasing a gadget. It is the answer to this that will give a person a complete picture of the required characteristics and the opportunity to choose a device at an affordable price.
- Screen. In 2021, trends dictate conditions and now it is very difficult to meet a user with a display whose diagonal is 4 inches. The current screen size for today is from 5 to 5.5 inches.
Having decided on these two components, you can move on to studying the processor, memory capacity, and so on.
Screen
Let's now compare the main characteristics of the display. We will be interested in pixel density, resolution and other available parameters.

Understanding rulers
Previously, the Chinese had a clear segmentation between the lines, but in recent years people, horses, fish, KVN finalists and everything like that have mixed together. For example, the most popular Honor line has spun off into a separate brand (like Redmi and Xiaomi), now you can find both very simple handsets for $100 and powerful smart phones for $400, which lack only a couple of little things to reach flagship status. To make matters worse, the Chinese have taken up the strange practice of selling the same models in different countries under different names. First of all, this concerns the Nova series, in which almost every model has exactly the same analogue among other Huawei lines.
Huawei Y: bright and inexpensive smartphones
Initially, Y was a purely budget series of smartphones for the most undemanding. Initially, models like Ascend Y6 were strong options with good hardware and minimal load on the pocket. The series did not have any concept, nor did it have a general design vision. In 2018, a clearer vector of development emerged, with an eye on young people and students who want a fun, bright gadget, but are not ready to overpay for it.
Popular budget smartphones Huawei Y series and Enjoy Apple iPhone 11 128GB from 18,649 UAH. Apple iPhone 12 128GB from 21,789 UAH. Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro 128GB from 6,750 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 64GB from 5,499 UAH. Apple iPhone Xr 64GB from 13,150 UAH. Apple iPhone 11 64GB from 15,871 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro 128GB/6GB from 7,950 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro 64GB from 6,499 UAH. Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB from 29,899 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi 9 64GB from 3,899 UAH.
New smartphones remain inexpensive (the oldest Huawei Y6s 2019 32 GB costs only $150), but they have changed in appearance. Instead of boring gray and black bricks that you don't want to take out of your pocket, Huawei has released some pretty nice devices with a modern frameless design and unusual back covers with a leather finish. They have dabbled in this before, but these were one-time promotions in top models like Huawei Mate 30 Pro.
Here we have a truly unique design at a bargain price. If we put aside the appearance, then we will find ourselves with rather simple and unpretentious devices with modest hardware (4-core processor, 2–3 GB of RAM, a simple IPS screen with HD resolution) and ordinary single cameras. That is, this is a purely everyday smartphone with no claims for high performance. It is enough for surfing, social networks, instant messengers and light games. But in the Y line you often find NFC, which allows you to turn your smartphone into a wallet. For the $100 segment, this is still luxury.

What's in 2021?
On one side of the price spectrum we are greeted by simple but interesting budget devices like Honor 8A 32 GB, which boast an interesting design and the presence of NFC (gorgeous for a $100 handset). At the other end you can find almost flagships of the caliber Honor 20 Pro 256 GB and Honor 20 128 GB. Both cost under $400 and are packed with the most: the flagship Kirin 980 processor, 6 – 8 GB of RAM, large built-in storage, fast charging, NFC, a powerful 4-lens camera and a premium metal and glass body.
Well, somewhere in the middle of the spectrum are the handsome Honor 8X 64 GB / 4 GB RAM and Honor 9X 128 GB / 4 GB RAM, which in our opinion are among the best smartphones for $200. The only thing I won't like is the slightly increased dimensions due to the large display. These are truly large smartphones even by modern standards.
Huawei P: business class
The P series smartphones are “Platinum” models, which are above average and belong to the “premium” category. Gadgets from this line quite successfully compete even with the leading representatives of the Apple family, while remaining more affordable. The main feature of the P flagship line is its very cool cameras, as a rule, this is where Huawei gets specialists from Leica involved, tests out some new features and sets performance records in tests.
Popular Huawei P series smartphones
Huawei P40 Lite from 6,099 UAH. Huawei P30 128GB/6GB from 13,999 UAH. Apple iPhone 11 128GB from 18,649 UAH. Apple iPhone 12 128GB from 21,789 UAH. Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro 128GB from 6,750 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 64GB from 5,499 UAH. Apple iPhone Xr 64GB from 13,150 UAH. Apple iPhone 11 64GB from 15,871 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro 128GB/6GB from 7,950 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro 64GB from 6,499 UAH. Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB from 29,899 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi 9 64GB from 3,899 UAH.
But there's more to come. Huawei realized that not all entrepreneurs necessarily need expensive and high-status smartphones, so over time the P line has expanded greatly. After the flagships themselves, such as the P20, their inexpensive modifications, the Huawei P30 Lite 64 GB, began to appear with a modified design and simplified hardware. The unspoken slogan of the Lite line is a powerful and high-status smartphone without overpayments. At the same time, pumped-up Pro versions with even more powerful filling also entered the market.
Then a separate sub-line P Smart appeared - still presentable, light and stylish smartphones, but at a bargain price in the region of $200 - 250. Thanks to their design and relatively small dimensions, they are often chosen by the fair sex.
If it seems to you that this ball is not completely tangled, then hold on. In 2021, a small Nova line was born, which informally belongs to the P family. As a rule, these are modifications of already released smartphones with minor changes in hardware or design. The advantage of the line is that it combines the advantages of the premium segment with advanced features, and at the same time, the models in this series do not “bite” in price. Perhaps it is the Nova series that is characterized by the least homogeneity. For example, some models run on Qualcomm processors, others Kirin, and the price can range from $200 to $500.
Summary: P Smart - balanced smartphones up to $200, Nova - middle class up to $400, P line - purebred flagships.
Smartphones similar to Honor 8S Prime
Let's determine which other phones from Huawei are similar to name1-, as well as the degree of similarity of their characteristics.
Model | Similarity | Prices |
Honor 8S | 94.4% | from 6590 rub. |
Y5 (2019) | 94.2% | from 6969 rub. |
Y5p | 88.7% | from 5940 rub. |
Honor 9S | 84.5% | from 5897 rub. |
Y6s | 83.1% | from 7929 rub. |
What's in 2021?
At the beginning of the year, the Y line included 9 models. 6 of them belong more likely to the fifth generation and, let’s be honest, are not of particular interest in the current realities. The new Enjoy Y with a “leather” back panel is now selling quite actively and costs from $95 to $155. When choosing, compare the characteristics of all three; perhaps the very weak processor of the Huawei Y5 2021 16 GB will not suit you, or you will definitely need NFC, which is not present in the Huawei Y6 2021 32 GB.
Also in the Y series there is a model Huawei Y7 2021 32 GB, which costs more than the others and in terms of design stands out from the crowd. Essentially this is the same Huawei P Smart 2021 64 GB Price from 3,699 to 3,799 UAH. with a couple of changes.
Huawei Honor: a separate kingdom where everyone will find something for themselves
Honor is the twin brother of Xiaomi's Redmi line. Initially, it was a family of simple, strong mid-range and budget devices that followed the golden formula of “maximum stuffing for $200.” An excellent example was the popular Honor 8X, which offered one of the most attractive combinations of power and functionality for its money. Add to this a beautiful metal and glass case that looks much more expensive than its cost, and you will get a bestseller.

Honor 9i 128GB from 5,940 UAH. Honor 7 from 2,924 UAH. Honor 8C 32GB/4GB from 3,899 UAH. Honor 10 128GB/6GB from 7,700 UAH. Apple iPhone 11 128GB from 18,649 UAH. Apple iPhone 12 64GB from 20,865 UAH. Apple iPhone 12 Pro 128GB from 26,800 UAH. Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro 256GB from 7,389 UAH. OnePlus 9 128GB from 14,580 UAH. Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G 128GB/8GB from 9,030 UAH. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G 64GB from 4,999 UAH.
Subsequently, Huawei expanded the price range. Both interesting and inexpensive Honor smartphones for $100, as well as rather sophisticated models that were aimed at flagship killers, arrived in stores. The main thing is that the formula “maximum quality without overpayments” has not changed. As a result, the Honor series became so successful that in 2021 it actually became a separate brand.

Huawei and Honor
Several years ago, the company had a separate line of Honor smartphones, which grew into its own sub-brand. Positioning of Honor devices – better parameters at more attractive prices. Today it turns out that on average the most expensive Honor smartphone can cost about 30 thousand rubles and at the same time have almost the same hardware as in the flagships of the main brand. Of course, the devices of the two brands differ visually, but even this line is beginning to blur.
On a note! Sometimes Honor devices are serious competitors not only to other brands, but also to Huawei itself.
If you compare Huawei and Honor smartphones, it may seem that the Chinese company is confused about which device belongs to which company, since there are many examples when in Russia the device is released under the name Honor, and in other countries it is called Huawei, and vice versa . There is an opinion that it is better not to separate these two brands, at least not to look for logic in the separation and consider Honor as another Huawei line in the mid-segment, a level slightly higher than Nova.
