Where do Honor smartphones come from?
Since 2010, the Huawei Device division begins producing the first line of its own IDEOS running Android OS.
A year later, sales of Huawei smartphones increased by 500%, exceeding the 20 million mark. Later, the company became one of the top three smartphone sales leaders, behind only Apple and Samsung.
In 2011, Huawei began thinking about creating a sub-brand: a separate company that would allow it to capture an even larger market share without creating direct competition.
Honor became .
Honor released the first smartphone in mid-2013.
And since 2014, Honor smartphones began to be sold outside of China: devices were available in Malaysia and some European countries. Soon they appeared in Russia .
Today Honor is represented in more than 100 countries.
Honor 20 series
As of mid-2021, it is the flagship family of smartphones. At the same time, it includes not only the top-end Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro devices, but also, for example, the relatively inexpensive Honor 20i device. In some markets it will be offered under the name Honor 20 Lite, and in Russia, oddly enough, it has long been sold under the name ... Honor 10i.

Okay, but why did they create Honor?
At first, Honor was positioned as an Internet brand . The company’s devices could only be purchased online on the company’s website or through online stores.
Later, official stores and resellers appeared in some countries.
The absence of retail chains in most cases allows us to reduce the price of devices and become a leader in terms of price-quality ratio in the corresponding segment.
In addition, the brand is aimed at a young audience. Social media promotion and online sales also contribute to progressive positioning.
In short: Honor is a youth brand with a correspondingly low price.
We have already seen something similar from BBK, which produces inexpensive smartphones from Oppo, Vivo and the “iPhone killer” – OnePlus.
Or Xiaomi with an affordable line under the Redmi and Pocofone brands for Europe.
Honor Note series
This series, which includes smartphones with very large screens, is updated quite rarely. Introduced in 2021, the Honor Note 10 with a 6.95-inch screen was launched only two years after the Honor Note 8 model with a 6.6-inch display. Both of them were not supplied to Russia.

What are the similarities and differences between Honor and Huawei smartphones?
Huawei P8 Lite and Honor 8 Lite
How they are similar: the same software. The devices have visually similar Android shells and an equal package of pre-installed software and services.
How they differ: logo, design and hardware.
Sometimes devices released at the same time differed in only a couple of technologies or supported communication standards. Thus, Huawei GT3 and Honor 5C differ in the presence of a fingerprint scanner in the first.
It happened that all the chips were the same, but there was a difference in processor power and memory capacity. For example, in Huawei P8 Lite and Honor 8 Lite. There were also absolutely identical models with different inscriptions on the back cover, like Huawei GR5 and Honor 6X.

At the same time, more affordable devices with a low price have always been sold under the Honor brand, and Huawei devices have been positioned as advanced devices with aspirations for the top segment.
Now the top flagship of Huawei is a technological filling with the latest achievements of the company, and one of the new products from Honor is a player in the middle segment, which mainly captivates with its price.

This is how the company has divided consumers for a more comfortable position in the market and can always offer a product for a niche of users.
Some can upgrade to devices of a higher class, while others can move down to a more affordable line without losing much of the device’s features.
Maybe it's time for Apple to launch its own sub-brand to sell affordable iPhone analogues?
