As strange as it may sound, the standard sounds are located in the “Sounds” section mentioned above. But since such a question has arisen, most likely you are interested in accessing factory ringtones through the task manager or when connected to a PC.

Android notification history - where to find it

In the first case you need:

  1. Click on the “My Files” icon in the main menu of the gadget (this is the name of the task manager on Android).
  2. Next in "DCIM".
  3. Next in “Audio”.
  4. And in “Ringtones” or “Notifications” (depending on the firmware).

Here you will see a similar list to what you can see in the settings in the “Sound” section. When connected to a PC, the email address is exactly the same.

Additional Information. When Root rights are activated (the manufacturer does not recommend this), sounds can be found at system/media/ringtones.

When connected to a computer, ringtones can be found in the “DCIM” folder

How to set your own ringtone for SMS and Android notifications

Now it's time to talk about how to install your own ringtone on SMS for Android. After all, everyone wants to be original or just enjoy their favorite song once again. There are several ways to do this.

Method No. 1

VKontakte, Android notifications do not arrive

To set your ringtone, you need to do the following:

  1. Go to "My Files".
  2. Select the internal memory of the device.
  3. Find the "Ringtons" section.
  4. Transfer the desired mp3 file here.
  5. Go to the settings menu.
  6. Next, go to the “Sound” section and there, in the “Default SMS Sound” tab, select the added melody from the list.

Note! First, you should find the desired melody and use the “Copy” or “Cut” tools, and only then go to the section with ringtones. If after the operation the melody is not in the list, you should restart your smartphone.

Method No. 2

It’s worth noting right away that the first option closes the question 100%. The second option is needed only if the internal memory of the device is full or there is a desire to leave it as free as possible for the sake of the speed of command response on the device.

So, to change the music to your own, you need:

  1. Go to the “My Files” manager.
  2. Select SD card memory.
  3. Next, create a media folder.
  4. Add an audio subfolder in it.
  5. Go into it and create another folder called notifications.
  6. Then everything is as in the point above - transfer the desired mp3 file here.
  7. Go to the settings menu.
  8. Next, go to the “Sound” section and there, in the “Default SMS Sound” tab, select the added melody from the list.

If everything is done according to the instructions, but the melody does not appear in the list (and rebooting the gadget did not help), you need to repeat all the steps, just skip creating the “media” folder - start immediately with “audio”.

Important! Folder names must be done strictly as indicated - without quotes and with a small letter.

You can also mention that this method works for setting a melody for an alarm clock or call. Everything is done the same way, only the name of the “notifications” folder changes to “alarms” (for alarm clock) or “ringtones” (for call).

Method No. 3

Another option in case the user decides to set different ringtones for some contacts in his phone book. In this method, the instructions are much shorter:

  1. Go to the phone book.
  2. Select the desired contact.
  3. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
  4. Select the “Set ringtone” function (Xiaomi phones will have the “Default ringtone” option).

There will be several sub-items on what exactly to set the melody for - a call or an SMS.

An alternative way to set a ringtone for SMS through the Messages application

Android 4.4 and higher

On most Android systems, there is a limitation on the ability to set your own ringtone for calls and SMS. Or, to put it in simple language, it is completely absent! Only a small list of different melodies is given, already installed and not distinguished by the variety of sounds. But no user likes restrictions. And a way was found to solve this problem. The method, as it turned out, is quite simple; it is described below in great detail.

But first you need to know that most Android-based devices differ in versions of the operating system, so almost all manufacturers have their own branded shell, or maybe the user uses a third-party Launcher, however, despite these circumstances, the sequence of changing the signal to SMS is approximately the same for everyone devices.

Setting up notification sounds for selected applications on Android

Now specifically about personalizing notifications for each specific application. Due to the difference in some items in Android versions, there will also be several subitems.

For Android OS 8 and 9 generations:

  1. Go to the “Notifications” section in the settings.
  2. Here there will be a list of applications on which developers allow you to install their ringtones. It’s also worth clicking on “View all” if the utility you need is not in the list.
  3. Find and click on the desired application.
  4. In a new window, the system will show what types of notifications the selected utility uses (incoming messages, update notifications, etc.).
  5. Click on the desired notification type and select “With sound”.
  6. In the window that opens, select the desired melody.

Similarly, you can, on the contrary, turn off the sound of notifications if the installed utility turns out to be too intrusive.

Additional Information. Not all apps allow you to change the notification sound. This usually applies to factory utilities like Hangouts.

If the smartphone is controlled by a 6th or 7th generation system, the instructions provide for the installation of additional software, since these versions of Android did not provide the above functionality.

You can choose, for example, from such utilities as:

  • Light Flow
  • NotifyCon;
  • Notification Catch App.

It is preferable to use the latter, since it provides a Russian-language interface.

Note! When you first launch the utility, you will have to agree to many requirements, but all of them are aimed solely at being able to install the desired melody.

After installation (available in the Play Market), the instructions are as follows:

  1. Launch the utility and go to the “Sound Profiles” tab.
  2. Click on “+” and create your profile.
  3. Next is the “Default” button.
  4. In a new window, select the desired melody (the program scans and sorts all mp3 files on the device).
  5. Tap on the desired ringtone. The algorithm will remember the selected melody. Now you need to go to the “Applications” tab.
  6. In the list of utilities available on your phone, select the one you need and tap on it.

After this, the previously selected melody will sound when receiving notifications from the selected application.

It is also worth considering the option of changing the ringtone within the applications themselves. Typically, this need arises when using various instant messengers. It is worth considering the algorithm of actions using the example of the most popular – WhatsApp.

The steps are as follows:

  1. Log in to the messenger and click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
  2. Click on the “Settings” item.
  3. Click on “Notifications”.
  4. Now on “Notification Sound”.
  5. Choose which notifications you want to change - for personal messages or notifications from group chats.
  6. After clicking on the item of interest, a small menu will pop up with a choice from where you can export the melody. The easiest way is to use the explorer for these purposes, click on the desired ringtone and confirm the action.

For other messengers like Telegram or Viber, the procedure is similar.

Changing the ringtone in WhatsApp visually

The Android platform offers flexible settings for personalizing sound notifications on its devices. Depending on the task, the user can use a standard set of melodies or select his own track. Also, the music can be changed for each specific contact or application.

The sound of incoming messages has disappeared, what should I do?

Now it’s clear how to change the ringtone in WhatsApp or how to mute the sound of incoming messages and calls. You can assign any song or even a recording from a voice recorder.

What should I do if messages on WhatsApp arrive without sound, and all parameters are configured correctly? Try changing the installed ringtone, there is a possibility that it is not supported.

Attention. If the sounds in WhatsApp are lost, make sure that the general volume of the mobile phone is not turned off. It can be added using the buttons on the side or through the menu.

How to set a WhatsApp ringtone for SMS and calls? All the necessary tools are already in the menu, just enter the parameters and change the settings. If you have problems after changing the option and all sounds are gone, check if the checkbox is enabled in the notification menu and try choosing a different ringtone.

  • WhatsApp has found a way to block any user just by knowing their number

This method was tested on the Samsung Galaxy M20 and it is quite possible that smartphones with older or new firmware will have a different path to the SMS ringtone settings.

Instructions

Open the smartphone settings and in the “Applications” section, select “Messages” from the list of installed programs.

Information about the selected application will open, where we select “Notifications”, and then click on the item “New messages (Slot 1)” or “New messages (Slot 2)” (depending on which SIM card you need to set the melody for).

All that remains is to click on the “Sound” item and select the melody you like for the incoming SMS.

If you don’t like any of the melodies, you can set your own personal ringtone.

To do this, you should download it to your mobile device and copy it to the My files, Device storage Notifications folder, and then open the list of available melodies again and select the one you need.
