Why Wireless Headphones DO NOT Connect to Phone via Bluetooth - Android Smartphone Doesn’t See Headset or Speaker

Many people encounter a problem when the phone does not see the headphones and simply refuses to recognize them. There is also a similar problem in which the smartphone detects the headphones, but the sound still does not come through. There can be a lot of reasons for this phenomenon: from a malfunctioning application to a hardware failure of the phone or headset. In the first case, fixing the problem is much easier. In the second case, you will most likely have to turn to gadget repair specialists.

Charging the headphones

Let's start with the reasons that are directly related to headphones. First of all, you need to make sure that the headset is charged enough to be able to connect to your smartphone. If suddenly they do not charge from the case, then read our separate instructions on how to fix this problem.

Many models are designed in such a way that they turn on immediately after they are removed from the case. As a result, we automatically take them out and put them in our ears, but in fact the case has long been discharged, and the headphones simply do not work.

Compatibility issues

Among the common reasons for the incompatibility of wired headphones, it is easy to highlight the design features of the plug and connector. Some headset manufacturers, for example, use 4 contacts, and smartphones support no more than 2 - which is why it is impossible to organize a pair for full operation either manually or automatically.

In addition to non-standard and non-universal wiring, it is important to remember about interfaces:

  • The 3.5 mm jack (Mini-Jack) has long been supported by mobile technology (but has already disappeared in some places - for example, on the latest models from Samsung, Huawei and Apple)
  • With Micro-Jack at 2.5 mm, and Jack at 6.35 mm, difficulties will definitely arise.

Figuring out how to connect wireless headphones to mobile technology is a little more difficult. Beyond the problems associated with a non-functioning Bluetooth module, it is important to remember the recommendations provided by the manufacturer of the purchased equipment. AirPods are not compatible with a certain version of iOS, and often do not pair with Android smartphones and tablets without downloading third-party software.

It is worth checking compatibility in advance - even before purchasing. It is advisable to remember that there are additional instructions - which, for example, describe the procedure for connecting headphones. Perhaps some buttons are not pressed or the order of actions is broken.

Turn on the headphones and put Bluetooth in standby mode

The second mistake of beginners or those who have previously used AirPods and their analogues, which turn on by themselves after they are removed from the case

For some wireless headphones, this is not enough - you need to force them to turn on so that they synchronize and go into standby mode for connecting to the phone.

Depending on the model, the headset can be turned on with a button inside or outside the case

Or you need to press the function key or touch sensor on the headphones themselves

Check the charge level

Naturally, any wireless headphones stop working when they are discharged, since they are powered by their own battery, and not the smartphone. Some models operate for more than a day in active mode, while others last only a few hours. Therefore, you need to learn the autonomy of your accessory so that a dead battery is not mistaken for a malfunction of the audio equipment.

If the indicator on the headset does not light up during pairing, then the problem is most likely a low charge. To solve it, just put the headset on charge. Do not rush to disconnect the headphones from the power supply; some models take more than three hours to charge. Pay attention to the indicator when connecting the accessory to charging. If it lights up, it means the headset is not broken.

Bring it close to your Android phone

Also, if your Android does not see wireless headphones or speakers, then you need to take into account that according to the Bluetooth 5.0 standard, the communication distance is no more than 10 meters in line of sight. In practice, when used in an apartment, due to numerous obstacles in the form of walls and doors, it does not exceed 5 meters. Therefore, to correctly detect the headset, you need to bring them close to the smartphone.

How to fix the problem?

Attempts to connect Bluetooth headphones to a smartphone may be unsuccessful for other reasons. It happens that the user does everything according to the instructions from the manufacturer and even tries to pair several times, but there is no result. The reason may be the history of connecting different devices to the mobile phone. All accessories that were previously synced are displayed in the history.

In this case, it makes sense to use a Bluetooth connection manager. Their task is to strengthen the signal of the built-in module and speed up the detection of the device that is as close as possible to the smartphone. In the manager, all devices are arranged in order of separation from the gadget. This greatly simplifies the synchronization task.

Each manufacturer tries to encourage customers to use smartphones and headsets from their company. However, not all users do exactly this due to various factors. Sometimes the connection problem lies in the smartphone itself, in its specifics. Solving the problem is usually quite easy.

On iPhone

Apple gadgets are equipped with a unique operating system, which has its own operating features. Of course, iPhones work best when paired with headphones from the same manufacturer, but it’s quite possible to connect others. The procedure for connecting via Bluetooth looks a certain way.

  • In the phone settings, you should find the option for pairing and make sure it is active. If you can’t turn it on, the gadget shows a spinning gear for a long time, then you should restart it.
  • Charged and turned on headphones should be placed near the phone. The maximum distance should not exceed 15 meters.

If this still does not help make the connection, then the reason may lie in hardware incompatibility. Detailed advice can be obtained exclusively from a service center that serves Apple customers. It is possible that the smartphone or headphones have some kind of technical malfunction.

It is worth noting that device incompatibility is extremely rare.

Disconnect headphones from another phone, iPhone or laptop

Another common reason that a smartphone cannot find and connect to Bluetooth headphones is that they are actively connected to another device - phone, laptop, TV, etc. Most models are designed in such a way that they automatically remember the last gadget they worked with. And immediately after turning it on, they connect to it, if this device has a Bluetooth module enabled.

Therefore, you must first disconnect them in the settings from another smartphone or laptop or simply turn off Bluetooth on it

Then you can try again to find the wireless headset (or speaker) in the list of devices to connect

Disconnect speakers or other headphones from your phone

Now let's look at a few errors related to the phone itself, due to which it cannot see or connect to a wireless headset or speaker. The most common situation is when the smartphone is already connected to other headphones or an audio device via Bluetooth. The fact is that most models can only work with one sound-reproducing device at a time. And as we already know, when Bluetooth is turned on on a smartphone, it can automatically connect to the last headset or speaker that played music from it.

Therefore, you must first go to the Bluetooth settings on Android, iOS, Windows or Mac OS and disconnect the current connection.

Or remove headphones or speakers from memory altogether

After which you can connect your laptop or smartphone to the desired wireless headphones

Why doesn't a tablet or phone find a bluetooth headset?

The most likely reasons why Bluetooth will not connect to your device are:

  1. Bluetooth are not compatible with each other;
  2. are too far away;
  3. the battery or accumulator is not charged;
  4. not ready for pairing;
  5. there is a lot of noise around;
  6. the module is damaged.

Compatibility

If you've never paired this particular headset and Android, or phone and Bluetooth kit, start by checking compatibility.

Although Bluetooth is supposed to be cross-compatible in most cases, the reality is often different from the idealized hypothetical.

So, in fact, it is quite easy to encounter situations where devices using different versions of the standard refuse to work and cannot see each other.

The good news is that new versions of Bluetooth are designed to work with all older versions of Bluetooth, so the fact that radios tend to lag behind other consumer electronics is usually not an issue.

Even if the headset uses a much older version of Bluetooth than your phone, they should still technically work together.

One notable exception is when one device uses what is called "Bluetooth Smart", as they can only be paired with Bluetooth Smart compatible devices.

So if you have two gadgets that outright refuse to connect, it's a good idea to investigate whether they are actually compatible.

Technical problems with your phone

Failures in the operating system disrupt the correct flow of commands and the transfer of information. In this case, it doesn’t matter how close the phone is to the headset, the connection will still not be established.

To check, you need to purchase a frequency scanner or try turning on the search. The phone may appear in search, but you will not be able to interact with it. If this situation occurs, then it’s time to repair the phone.

Bluetooth disabled on smartphone

The situation is divided into two:

  • Bluetooth is just turned off. In this case, you need to go to the settings and activate it;
  • Bluetooth is disabled at the software level and is not in the settings. This is a common situation for the iPhone, although it is not unlikely for other operating systems either.

Battery low

Bluetooth can drain your battery - and shorten your battery life - when it's active. Some phones go into power saving mode when the battery is low, causing the Bluetooth radio to turn off.

You can simply turn Bluetooth on manually to get around this, or you may find that charging one or both of your devices is the only way to get them to pair properly.

It's a good idea to make sure your devices are fully charged or connected to a power source if you're having trouble connecting them.

The headset is connected to another phone

If the headset is occupied by another device, you cannot connect to it. The easiest way to test is to turn off the headset and turn it on again. So, devices connected to it will immediately turn off.

Bluetooth module failure

In this case, the work will be extremely unstable. The connection will be interrupted all the time, some headsets will be able to connect, and some will not. This is the main sign of a breakdown, as is the inability to connect to a paired device.

Alternative ways to connect a headset to your phone

Let's look at some basic tips:

  • For a mobile phone (or computer with a two-way audio jack like a mobile phone), you can use the CBB01 (3.5mm jack) (part #502729) (plain cable) or CMB01 (part #506090) (integrated call monitoring cable).
  • For a computer, you can use CEDPC1 (two 3.5mm jacks) (Part No. 009907) or USB-ED01 (USB connection) (Part No. 506035) or UUSB8 (USB connection with built-in call control) (Part No. 504004).

NOTE. If you need a "learner cable" to connect two headsets to one phone, you can use the ATC2 (Part #502175), which then connects to the corresponding "bottom cable" to connect to the phone.
