Honor and Huawei: where to look for differences?
Honor organization manager George Zhao explains that the differences between these organizations primarily lie in the distribution and promotion of smartphones. If we compare them, it is Honor that receives more attention from young users. This brand has helped Huawei expand its customer base.
Honor phones are advancing thanks to the use of new technologies and methods of communication. Devices of this brand are massively sold through virtual stores.
The rating of Huawei and Honor smartphones gives you the opportunity to compare budget, mid-segment and flagship devices. And after comparison we can already conclude which is better.
You can see the distinctive features of smartphones in the following video:
Honor Huawei is the same or not
The question: are Honor and Huawei the same thing or not is not entirely correct. Honor is a megabrand of Huawei. In 2003, a division was opened that began developing and producing mobile phones. The company's first mobile device, the C300, appeared on the market in 2004. Huawei U8820 is the first smartphone on the Android operating system, released in 2009.
There are devices with two names on store shelves, and users sometimes get confused. Honor is a subsidiary model that appeared on the basis of Huawei in 2013. So there is a difference in smartphones, although they are similar in technology, company and functions. The difference between the two smartphones is in brands, design and some characteristics.
Why did the company launch a second brand on the market? Because it has to do with device distribution and marketing policies. Honor is a more modern brand that attracts a younger audience. Therefore, the company expanded its influence and circle of customers. Their flagships are already being compared to major brands such as Samsung and Asus.
Budget devices
When deciding whether to buy Huawei or Honor, you need to take into account that both smartphones have excellent characteristics and visually look expensive.
Honor 10 Lite
It is this device that amazes with the implementation of a full-screen format with small frames, due to this the diagonal of the space is 6.21 inches. The memory capacity shows the availability of 64 GB. And at the top of the display there is a small teardrop-shaped insert, while this innovation is typical of more expensive devices. A similar implementation is needed to increase the total space on the front panel.
In other respects, the 10 Lite smartphone is not inferior to its rivals, complemented by an internal charging capacity of 3400 mAh, several main shooting modules of 13 and 2 megapixels. There is also a front-facing lens with a resolution of 24 megapixels.
Huawei P Smart (2019)
The manufacturer recently released a new model for the P Smart line. The original smartphone was launched earlier in 2021, but the new version has more benefits. For example, the most innovative model of 2019 received a wide display with a diagonal of 6.21 inches, changing the previous 5.7-inch format.
It is difficult to find differences when comparing Huawei and Honor, because in terms of characteristics, the P Smart (2019) is somewhat similar to the 10 Lite model, but instead of a 24 MP front camera resolution, 8 MP is used, and the internal battery capacity is only 3000 mAh. But in fact, it cannot be guaranteed that such parameters can ensure good quality and long service life of the device, so a more comprehensive practical comparison is required.
The most popular Huawei and Honor smartphones - popular rating 2018-2019
As in the previous two parts about Xiaomi and Samsung smartphones, fans of the Huawei/Honor brand prefer inexpensive entry-level and mid-level smartphones. But at the same time, among Honor in the top ten most popular you can find the flagship Honor 10 (2nd place). Among Xiaomi fans, there is not a single top-end device in the top 10 or even in the top 15. Among Samsung fans, only the Galaxy S8 is in eighth place, although this flagship is far from new.
By the way, despite the grand return of Nokia 2 years ago, smartphones from this brand are not popular, at least on our website. Although the Meizu company is at the top of the list, in terms of percentage, gadgets from this manufacturer are also not sold out in droves - Meizu is not far behind Lenovo and LG with about 2% of the total number of devices. From the incomprehensible - we are read even from Inoi smartphones, although it is incomprehensible to the mind who even buys this slag. The defunct Leeco company continues its decline and its smartphones are still online. It’s a pity that the company disappeared, because it was almost the only one who could compete with Xiaomi for the lowest price tags for cool smartphones.
The full list of visitors from mobile devices is presented below, and we begin to get acquainted with the most popular Huawei gadgets, which most often wander through the spaces of Stevsky.ru.
Middle segment
The best phones at the moment costing from 11,000 rubles:
- Huawei P Smart;
- Honor 9 Lite;
- Honor 7X.
Huawei P Smart
This model is one of the best in this segment. It stands out with an excellent dual-type camera of 13 and 2 megapixels, a huge 5.65-inch display and a 3,000 mAh battery.
Advantages of this device:
- metal body;
- dual type camera;
- decent high resolution screen;
- performance.
Disadvantages of a smartphone:
- poor autonomy;
- Low performance, cannot run powerful games.
Honor 9 Lite
Judging by the characteristics, the Honor phone fully justifies its price. It is equipped with a high-quality 5.65-inch screen and has excellent resolution; it also boasts a HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor and a dual main camera (13 and 2 megapixels).
Despite the decent price of the smartphone, it is called a simplified flagship. The weak 3,000 mAh battery thickens things a bit.
Honor 7X
For the average group, the smartphone's nearly 6-inch display looks great. But this is not all the advantages contained in the device.
The main camera has two modules of 16 and 2 megapixels. The memory is 4 GB, and the battery capacity is 3,340 mAh. The advantages include the beautiful design of the device. Simply put, almost all capabilities are provided to the modern user.
The downside is the lack of NFC fast charging.
What is the difference between Honor and Huawei models?
In short: both lines feature devices of different types. Competition in the market has led to the fact that the clear distinction between brands has become blurred. Now the manufacturer itself is simply developing both directions, and sometimes uses different names for different regions. Differences may include support for different communication standards, memory amounts and additional functions (such as the presence/absence of NFC or a fingerprint scanner). It’s impossible to say unequivocally which is better: it all depends on the model.
- Honor 8 Pro and V9 are the same device, the second model is for China, and is equipped with 128 (instead of 64) GB of memory.
- Huawei P8 Lite (2017) is very difficult to understand. It is also sold as P9 Lite (2017) in Turkey, GR3 (2017) in India and the Middle East, Nova Lite in Japan and Honor 8 Lite in Russia. The regular model is equipped with 3/16 GB of memory, and the Indian (strangely) – 4/64 GB.
Huawei P8 Lite (2017) and Honor 8 Lite
- The G9 Lite model is the most powerful, it got 3/32 GB of memory, but the P9 Lite and Honor 8 Smart (Indian modification) were equipped with only 2/16 GB.
- Huawei Enjoy 6S is also called Nova Smart and Honor 6C, the Nova model has 2/16 GB of memory, others – 3/32 GB.
- Huawei GR5 (2016) with memory increased from 2/16 to 3/32 GB is sold as Honor 5X. But a model with 2/16 GB is also presented under this name.
- Huawei Mate 9 Lite is also rich in versions: in Ukraine it is known as GR5 (2017), and in Russia – as Honor 6X. No differences in iron were noticed.
Huawei GR5 (2017) and Honor 6X
- The Honor Note 8 smartphone is known in its homeland as Honor V8 Max, and the differences are only in communication standards.
- The Honor 7 Lite (Chinese name) and Huawei GT3 (sold in Ukraine) are the same model, but the Honor 5C (officially presented in Russia) is identical in everything except a fingerprint scanner (it does not have one).
Huawei GT3 and Honor 5C
- Huawei Y6 Pro is also known as Honor 5X Play and Enjoy
- Huawei Y3 II is identical in appearance to the Honor Bee 2 model (Indian exclusive), but runs on the old MT6582 chipset without LTE, while the “Indian” got MT6735 with 4G.
- The “big brother” Huawei Y5 II was also equipped with the old MT6582, and its twin Honor 5 Play – with the more recent MT
- The Y6 II model is also known as Honor Holly 3, under this name the device is sold in India.
There are other smartphones that were simultaneously released under two names, but they have already been discontinued and have almost disappeared from sale. As can be seen from the list, the manufacturer does not make a clear distinction (for example, branding improved versions with the main name): sometimes Honor is slightly better than its analogue, but sometimes vice versa. Therefore, it is impossible to say unequivocally which is better. To avoid mistakes, it is better to take the version for your region. That is, Ukrainian buyers would be better off with the same Huawei GR5 (2017), and Russians would be better off with the Honor 6X.
Flagship segment comparison
To finally understand the differences between smartphones and leading manufacturers, you need to study the flagships and draw a conclusion.
Honor View 20
In real life, Honor View 20 is perceived as the best solution of the organization, while the predecessor was released in 2018 in January, and the difference is felt when compared with the new version, even without a full inspection. The main feature of the device is the use of a 6.4-inch diagonal screen.
Honor's hardware is represented by the Kirin 980 chip, which is also used in Huawei's flagship devices. There are no other amazing characteristics in the smartphone. The phone is equipped with a 48 megapixel main shooting module, which is used together with a 3D camera, while the identical parameters of the front sensor are 25 megapixels.
Huawei P20
This gadget has a screen diagonal of 5.8 inches. Such parameters may feel less important compared to other analogues, but in real life the dimensions of the P20 version are close to the dimensions of the iPhone XS.
The device is equipped with a very good Kirin 970 chip combined with 4 GB of memory, and on the back there is a block of 2 cameras. They consist of a main sensor and an additional sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels and 20 megapixels, naturally providing excellent shooting quality.
The difference between Huawei and Honor as companies lies primarily in their separate existence, but in real life the devices are created using identical power and parts. But the subsidiary brand can make its own decisions regarding its products, and it also becomes better independently of Huawei.
Flagship devices
The best high-end smartphones of the year:
- Honor 10;
- Honor View 10;
- Huawei P20 Pro.
We can say that all three models are similar to each other.
Honor 10
Honor's flagship smartphone is beautiful in appearance, has decent technical characteristics, and its price is lower than many expensive models. Therefore, it can easily give odds to cool devices.
The advantages of the Honor 10 smartphone are as follows:
- powerful filling (Hisilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core, 8 cores);
- good main camera (16 and 24 megapixels);
- loud speaker;
- large screen with a diagonal of 5.84 inches;
- nice modern design;
- Availability of aptX HD codec.
Flaws:
- no protection against moisture;
- ultrasonic fingerprint scanner;
- the hardware navigation block is implemented unsuccessfully;
- Memory card is not supported.
Honor View 10
The Honor View 10 model, according to experts, is slightly superior in photo capabilities to other smartphones in the top ten. In general, the quality of the images is high. Although the camera still makes mistakes.
The best Honor smartphone, included in the Top Flagships, has the following advantages:
- high performance (powered by an eight-core Hisilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core processor);
- good dual main camera (16 and 20 megapixels);
- metal case;
- decent battery life (battery capacity is 3,750 mAh).
Disadvantages of Honor of this model:
- camera lenses protruding beyond the body;
- lack of protection from moisture;
- lack of optical stabilization.
Huawei P20 Pro
The most expensive of Huawei's flagships included in the ranking of the best smartphones of the year. The manufacturer did everything possible to make it technologically advanced and innovative. The Huawei smartphone has a triple camera (40, 20 and 8 megapixels), which has no analogues, and the screen diagonal exceeds 6 inches.
Advantages:
- high quality images;
- high performance;
- large amount of memory (6 and 128 GB);
- frameless screen;
- chic design;
- relatively large battery capacity (4,000 mAh).
There are few disadvantages:
- lack of a memory card slot;
- slippery body.
All about the display
Let's start with the screens - there is a clear difference here. The P30 has an OLED screen from the BOE organization, its diagonal is 6.1 inches, resolution is 2340x1080, there is HDR10 and coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. Honor 20 purchased an IPS matrix without HDR10.
Honor 20:
- Max. White brightness: 454 cd/m2.
- Maximum dark brightness: 0.388 cd/m2.
- Contrast: 1170:1.
- Color rendering error, DeltaE: 1.8.
Huawei P30:
- Max. white brightness: 635 cd/m2.
- Maximum dark brightness: 0.00 cd/m2.
- Contrast: ∞
- Color rendering error, DeltaE: 1.5.
The screen on the P30 is better in every way. This is a high quality matrix from BOE with truly infinite contrast and good brightness. The display on the Honor 20 produced weak contrast results, which is unacceptable for such an expensive model.
HONOR 30i
We are offered a beautiful phone, the body of which is made of metal and glass - pleasant tactile materials. It has compact dimensions and does not exceed 7.7 mm in thickness. The image is displayed on a rich 6.3-inch OLED display, for which 83% of the front panel area is allocated. It operates at a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels, which gives good picture detail.
When you visually inspect the case, you will not find a fingerprint scanner, because now it is built into the screen. At the top there is a drop-shaped cutout for a 16 MP selfie camera, with which you can get amazing selfies with various effects. The main camera is no less surprising. It is represented by three modules of 48, 8 and 2 megapixels, each of which has a specific role. In combination they give excellent results.
The Kirin 710F chipset with 8 cores and a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz is responsible for performance. In addition, it comes with 4/128 GB of memory, and if this is not enough for you, you can install an NM Card up to 256 GB. The 4000 mAh battery is charged via the Type-C port. From the included 10 W charge, 53% reaches 53% in 30 minutes.
Pros:

- Beautiful design and color options;
- Rich OLED matrix with eye protection mode;
- Good camera;

- No Google apps;
- The on-screen scanner does not always work the first time.
Battery and autonomy
New Chinese smartphones are equipped with batteries with a capacity of 3750 mAh for Honor 20 and 3650 mAh, and for Huawei P30, the difference is only 100 mAh. Devices charge quickly. Below are the test results for autonomy.
Honor 20:
- Communication on a 3G network: 32:20 hours.
- Entertainment on the Internet using Wi-Fi: 13:25 hours.
- Video: 14:14 hours.
- Charging speed with your device 22.5 W: 50% in half an hour.
Huawei P30:
- Communication on a 3G network: 22:38 hours.
- Entertainment on the Internet via Wi-Fi: 13:52 hours.
- Video: 16:22 hours.
- Charging speed with the main device 22.5 W: 65% in half an hour.
The winner in terms of autonomy is Honor 20, as it gives you the ability to talk on the phone for ten hours longer.
HONOR 8S Prime
HONOR 8S Prime is the cheapest cell phone of the brand, which offers maximum features for its price. It is suitable for surfing the Internet, watching movies in high quality and not too demanding games. The new product is equipped with a 5.71-inch IPS screen with HD+ resolution, which makes it one of the most compact in the 2021 model range.
RAM is 3 GB, while the internal memory is limited to 64 GB. Additionally, you can install MicroSD up to 512 GB. In its upper part there is a drop-shaped cutout for a 5 MP front camera, which can record video in FullHD. There is only one main camera of 13 megapixels with f/1.8 aperture. The battery is only 3000 mAh, but due to weak hardware it lasts for a long time. Responsible for performance is the weak Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 processor with 4 cores and a frequency of up to 2 GHz.
Pros:
- Very compact;
- Fits well in the hand;
- Price;
- Optimal amount of memory;
- A film is glued to the screen from the factory;
- Autonomy;
- Camera.
Minuses:
- Weak processor, although for this price you wouldn’t expect anything else;
- No NFS.
HONOR 30S
With a budget of up to 30,000 rubles, this is the best Honor phone of 2020, which in its parameters resembles the Huawei P40 Lite 5G. The 6.5-inch IPS display, which occupies 84% of the area, is immediately worth adding to the list of advantages. It displays a rich and detailed image with a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels. In tribute to the latest trends, the front camera was built into the upper left corner. It participates in face unlocking and takes wonderful selfies thanks to a good 16 MP lens.
The heart of the phone is the proprietary Kirin 820 processor, made using an energy-efficient 7-NM process technology. It includes 8 cores with a frequency of up to 2.36 GHz. Memory - 8/128 GB with the ability to get another 256 GB by installing a flash drive of the rare nano memory format. Performance is enough for any purpose, which is confirmed by testing in Antutu, where we managed to score 362,825 points. Support for advanced communications is announced - 5G, NFS, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.
On the gradient back is the main asset of the device - its camera. There are four of them - a 64 MP main lens, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2 MP macro lens, and a 2 MP lens for measuring the depth of field of a scene. Video is recorded in 4K at 30 fps, and slow-mo recording is also available at 960 fps.
Out of the box, the smartphone runs on Android 10 OS, but there are no Google services. As an alternative, the manufacturer is promoting its AppGallery app store. The fingerprint scanner is located on the side, and to power the elements there is a 4000 mAh battery that supports 40 W accelerated charging. 70% of it accumulates after 30 minutes.
Pros:

- 7-NM processor, which reduces heat generation and reduces energy consumption;
- 5G support;
- Bluetooth of the latest generation;
- NFS;
- Very fast charging - 70% in half an hour;

- Appearance.
Minuses:

It’s easy to decide which Honor 20 is better:
- 20S is the most budget option, which is inferior in terms of autonomy and cameras;

- 20 Pro is the most technologically advanced solution with top photographic capabilities.
Honor 9X
The best Honor model with a price of up to 15,000 rubles boasts a beautiful glass body, which is strengthened by a metal side frame. Many will be pleased by the absence of cutouts at the top of the 6.59-inch screen, because it has been replaced by a pop-up 16 MP selfie camera. What’s most interesting is that the front camera closes quickly if you drop the device from your hands. Its resource will be enough for at least 100,000 operations. The manufacturer chose the optimal memory size of 128/4 GB. If that's not enough for you, that is
modification with 6 GB of RAM.

History of the creation of Honor
Honor's story begins at the moment when Huawei's management chose the priority audience for production. But the company was not going to abandon the remaining market segments for which Honor was created.
The sub-brand should produce phones for young people and people who want to use modern technology, but are not ready to spend large sums. Another feature of the brand was its focus on the Internet: the first lines of smartphones were sold exclusively in online stores. Only after achieving the first successes and proving to the creators that they could sell well, Honor phones moved to chain stores and real retail outlets.
Which phone is better Xiaomi or Huawei
It is especially difficult to give victory to any one manufacturer if the comparison involves two giants such as Xiaomi and Huawei. In many respects, the brands are approximately equal, but in some respects Xiaomi smartphones were stronger:
- Performance.
- Cameras.
- Battery.
- Working hours.
True, Huawei also has its own trump cards up its sleeve:
- Software.
- Memory.
As a result, Xiaomi wins by a small margin. In recent years, it has managed to get rid of its status as a brand that produces simple and cheap smartphones. And below you can read reviews from people who bought devices from both brands.
Michael
Owner of Huawei P30 Pro
The phone is beautiful, convenient and very reliable. There is a lot of memory (256 GB), but for some reason, without processing, the photos are not as juicy as we would like. And the back panel instantly collects fingerprints.
Elena
Owner of Xiaomi Mi Note 10
A real camera phone with a huge battery. It is impossible to find a better model, but there are complaints about the quality of individual cameras.
Catherine
Owner of Huawei P Smart Z
Balanced phone with full screen, pop-up camera and NFC. It’s a pity that there is no video stabilization, and you can’t really play.
Valentina
Owner of Xiaomi Mi 9T
The ideal smartphone with a retractable camera. It has a bright AMOLED screen with no cutouts, an under-screen scanner, and a case included. But the lack of an SD card slot has an impact.

HONOR 10X Lite
By creating Honor 10X Lite, the Chinese company managed to combine an affordable price and balanced characteristics that will allow you to cope with any task. The 6.67-inch IPS screen displays a colorful picture with FullHD+ resolution, in the center of the upper part of which there is a hole for an 8 MP selfie camera. The set of main cameras is no less impressive - on the rectangular bar there was room for 48, 8, 2 and 2 megapixel lenses. In combination with good aperture and advanced algorithms, it is possible to obtain decent results under any conditions.
The autonomy will only please you, which is a merit of the 5000 mAh battery. In 30 minutes it charges up to 46% thanks to the included 22.5 W charger, which connects to the USB C port. The Kirin 710A processor does not set performance records, but it copes well with everyday tasks and can handle games on medium-low graphics. It is complemented by 4/128 GB of memory with the ability to expand the volume with a MicroSD card up to 512 GB. True, it is installed instead of a second SIM card. There is NFC and 3.5 mini-Jack.
Pros:
- One of the best options for your money and not only from Honor;
- Balanced characteristics - a good chipset and a lot of memory;
- Good build;
- Luscious display;
- Charging time and battery life;
- Loud main and conversational speaker;
- Super camera;
- Price;
- USB Type-C;
- Appearance;
- The fingerprint is read quickly.
Minuses:
- Lack of Google services;
- Combined slot for flash drive.
